Bother. I think it was just the meme that was handy in the public mind at present, so it hopped to mine first. Most of this story set is about hating and fearing the minority; with Vladimir's story it's about a small and harmless religious sect that is NOT US, though there's a little foray into other racial tensions too. Some of the set is oriented more toward hatred and fear of Gypsies. Or Jews. Or that kid on the playground who doesn't look like the other ones. Regardless of its target, it's still stupid uninformed hatred, and it still fascinates me as a topic. Too, the flavor of intolerance is at the moment sort of right with homosexuality -- here, we're trying to decide whether or not to let two men marry. Other places might boldly wonder, someday, whether they need to be allowed to live. And that's about where my magic people are living -- do we let them be full citizens, or do we burn the lot of them? Different countries give different answers at different times. Sounds like you've been productive - much more so than me. I've only updated my resume. I still need to do an essay so I can finish my application to the MS in Software Programming I plan to start in January. *sigh*
