Con.Txt DIY Panel Write-Up: Hockey RPF Splinter Faction Table
I had a great time at Con.Txt this weekend - it was my first con EVAR! On Saturday during the DIY block, 
corbae and I split off from the general RPS DIY panel to talk about Hockey RPF. A group of us sat in the ConSweet and chatted about how the sport works, fics we've enjoyed, hilarious/ridiculous things hockey players do on twitter and youtube, and some things we like and would like to see more often.
I took some rough notes and
corbae and I worked up this recap.
Hockey 101
There are some basic primers for how hockey works, so that you can have an idea of what game these dudes are playing. We had a hand-drawn rink at our table, but here are some online resources:

-I really like How To Hockey for more detailed stuff, like if you're curious how a slapshot works!
-NHL rules on Wikipedia, if you are like me and care about the nuances of icing.
What to Read: Recs

Stories We Like
These are divided by trope/theme, roughly in the order we talked about them.
There are a lot of sex work AUs in hockey RPF! (This is one of my personal favorite tropes, so I appreciate it.) We listed off a bunch very quickly:

edit: - A story where Kaner makes bad life choices which lead to him becoming a prostitute, which I hope someone else has a link for! Haha, look at me failing at taking notes. Kaner is not a sex worker in this story, but he did make questionable life choices: Never Face The Music (When It’s Dire) by notamagnet, Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews.
Some of us mentioned liking high school AUs. We talked about how in some high school stories, the the characters are still hockey players and there's a lot of hockey in the stories, which is pretty cool. I didn't catch any specific stories from this conversation, but here are a few I like:

- Extra Curriculars by beatperfume, riadsala, and shoemaster, Brent Seabrook/Duncan Keith and Ryan Kesler/Andrew Ladd

We mentioned wanting more coming out stories - more about this in the wishlist section, below. Here are two recs from the panel for non-AU fics where hockey players deal with coming out:
- Heart in Hand (locked to AO3 users) by salifiable, Sidney Crosby/Alexander Ovechkin

Fandom Wish List
We talked some about things we like and would enjoy more of in hockey RPF!
- Tag fics with team names! This is especially helpful for people who are newer and may not know all the players' names yet, or for people getting into a certain team.
- Is there femslash for women's hockey? Could we get some? 2010 Olympics women's teams fic would be rad.
- More PK Subban! And more PK/Carey Price (#parttimegoaliefulltimeredneck).
- Brooks Laich/Mike Green fic! We talked about the adorableness of Brooks Laich's Caps Cribs vid where Mike talks about having to stay over with Brooksy because he locked himself out (starts around 3:09) and then they ate breakfast together. Sounds like the plot of a fic to me. (Mike Green's Caps Crips is also hilarious, if only because Brooksy follows him around the apartment mocking him.)
- We would like more coming out stories, especially ones that deal with You Can Play. Would NHL players put their money where their YouTube is if a player came out? We mentioned two fics in this category, which are in the recs set above.
- Multipartner fic! We talked about some ones we've read and enjoyed - see the recs set.
Assorted Squee and Shenanigans
- We watched the terribad Blackhawks Christmas carols vid, lol'd about the Kaner Shuffle, and discussed the saddest Sidney Crosby commercial.
- Recap of The Ballad of Carts and Richie and dramatic reading of the #needaroommate tweet. Here's a link to the epic Mike Richards/Jeff Carter primer, and just for fun:
