NaNoWriMo: Day 6
Yeah, I know, I missed a day, but I got distracted yesterday despite not going to the 5th of November celebrations (it was raining!). As a result, my word count was a measly 2,394 words. I'm not gonna make my goal if I keep this up.
The low count did make me more determined then ever to do a lot for today and I set my self the goal of 10k. I didn't quite make it, but came up short by only 521 words, which kinda annoys me (I mean I was so close) but I'm very happy with it nonetheless. Especially since I had quite the scare there at about 23:15.
See, I write in Notepad as I prefer to not have to worry about funky formatting or spell/grammar checks and it's too much hassle to turn them on and off the whole time. Anyway, at the end of one of the word wars in the chat, I copied what I've written out and pasted it into Word to do a count. I'd done that and then gone back to my browser to state my count. At some point during this time, my browser must have flickered back to Notepad twice (my computer's been acting up a bit) because when I went back to it, everything I'd written during the war was gone and something I'd wanted to put into the chat was there instead. And ctrl-z only got me a different bit of chat dialog. Apparently I'd been on such a role that I hadn't hit save in a while either. So panic!
Then, however, I tried ctrl-z in Word and low and behold, there were my missing words! I've been hitting save every five seconds since.
On a side note, can I state how amusing I find it that they keep changing what kinds of stats you get on your author stats page on the NaNo site? It started with a ton of stuff and things have slowly been disappearing or the wording has changed since. Like now it no longer lists the number of days that you've failed or anything similar to the number of days you haven't reached your goal (which is what the failed was first changed to). Guess it was bad for moral.
