Ah. I believe we have a misunderstanding. It was not I who went home, but my wife. She apparently did return to the point at which she left. She remained at home for nearly twenty years, even though only a few days had passed here. It was she who informed me of our son's death.
It did not occur to me to ask if I was present at the funeral. I wonder if I will indeed be there, or if my presence in the City will prevent me. Is such a thing possible? Can the City prevent us from living out our lives as originally intended?

I will have two decades with my son. Knowing that there is such a finite period of time in which he will be part of my life is not exactly a comforting thought. He is my heir as well as my son. He was to have inherited the empire upon my death.
And now I see how Ferdinand would have arrived at that position instead.
