So that's how far this place goes in thwarting time? I'm sorry for your loss.

That's unusual.

Apparently so. It is most unfortunate.

Thank you for your kind words, Miss Asano.

Maybe - maybe it was just this time? Because it was an out-of-order event? Most people I know of who went home went back to the point they came from...

Ah. I believe we have a misunderstanding. It was not I who went home, but my wife. She apparently did return to the point at which she left. She remained at home for nearly twenty years, even though only a few days had passed here. It was she who informed me of our son's death.

It did not occur to me to ask if I was present at the funeral. I wonder if I will indeed be there, or if my presence in the City will prevent me. Is such a thing possible? Can the City prevent us from living out our lives as originally intended?

At least think, wherever that was true or lie, that you have decades to come with your son. Cherish that time together.

I will have two decades with my son. Knowing that there is such a finite period of time in which he will be part of my life is not exactly a comforting thought. He is my heir as well as my son. He was to have inherited the empire upon my death.

And now I see how Ferdinand would have arrived at that position instead.
