ok, so the news is out that i'm planning on travelling to china for a few weeks in december.
now the hard part. the planning. i want to visit beijing, suzhou, and shanghai, but i DO NOT want tour packages for white folk. the thing i fear most is that i'm going to get dragged through areas that were designed for tourists. if ANYONE could help me with trying to find a deal that'll give me an informed cultural/architectural/sociological tour of china, please let me know.
i was thinking that perhaps i should ask people from beijing university, esp if they had a department for architecture. i searched for them on google and found peking university. i don't know why they call it that. that's a name that was given to the city by westerners cuz they misheard the proper pronunciation, which sounds a lot more like it starts with a b, hence beijing. silly westerners. anywho, i found nothing on their website that would help me.
