The group talk before this can be found here. In the individual parts Arashi are asked about what they want to be their hatsuyume, talk a bit about what 2011 was like for them and their thoughts and plans for 2012, and then they're all asked the same eight winter themed questions :p Enjoy!

What is the first dream you want to have in the New Year!? [link: hatsuyume]

Dreams happen all the time so I don’t really remember them. So while I don’t know which will be my first dream, what I'd want to dream of would be getting time off and going overseas!

In 2012 I’d like to challenge figurine making!

Looking back at 2011, well, of course I guess it was a Kaibutsu-kun year. When I went to India for filming, I’d eat curry three times a day and still never get sick of it at all (laugh). Then there was also a special of the drama... And then even making live appearances as Kaibutsu-kun, we really were always together, and it was the best~! [T/N: said “saikou~!” like Kaibutsu-kun ^^]

I’m also going to be in the 2012 New Year’s special drama Mou Yuukai nante Shinai, playing the role of Shotaro, a part-time worker. The story develops as he finds himself involved in an unexpected situation, and by the end you may be asking yourself a little, “what is it I really want?”

As for Arashi, we have concerts straight from the start of the year, but as for myself, what I want to do is make figurines. Though they’re only small, I definitely want to find the time to work on them. No matter how busy I get, so long as I still have time to devote myself to my hobbies, time for just myself, I’m fine! I feel like bring on 2012! I accept the challenge! (laugh).

Winter Themed Q&A

Q1. What food do you associate with winter?

I guess it would have to be nabe [T/N: Japanese steamboat]. Then ones like medical herb nabe are good for you too, and they also warm your whole body. There are lots of delicious things in winter.

Q2. Which Arashi song do you associate with winter?

Fuyu no Nioi. Doesn’t it seem fitting?

Q3. If you were to add another word to the word “winter”?

Hibernation [T/N: hibernation = 冬眠 (冬=winter, 眠=sleep), so it is adding a word to “winter” (冬)]. Animals sleep until spring, but if possible I’d like to hibernate until about summer (laugh). I’d fill my stomach with tasty food then go into hibernation, saying “goodnight~”.

Q4. What sort of things make you think of winter?

What makes me think of winter? Speaking for myself, I guess it would be dieting. During winter 2010 I did my best to lose weight. By watching what I ate I could lose 3kg in ten days. Now it’s like I’m in a physical state where I can’t really get fat.

Q5. What is it you want to do this winter?

Though it’s winter, what I want to do is fishing~. I can fish throughout the year, but fish like hirame [T/N: olive flounder - best fished in winter.. or something like that] are good. Ah~ I wanna go fishing now!

Q6. A plant you see in the winter?

There aren’t any. I don’t see many plants in winter.

Q7. What kind of season is winter to you?

For winter, the image of mikan [T/N: mandarin orange] at the kotatsu [T/N: the Japanese thing with the table covered by a futon/blanket and a heater underneath - commonly linked with mikan, another symbol of winter] comes to mind. The cosy feeling of being inside while it’s cold and snowing outside is nice.

Q8. Who in Arashi do you most associate with winter?

MatsuJun. I somehow have the image of him always wearing a long coat (laugh).

Sakurai Sho

What is the first dream you want to have in the New Year!?

Since it’s the year of the dragon, I want to see a dragon in my dream. Doesn’t it seem like that would be cool? In all my 30ish years, not even once has a dragon appeared in my dreams (laugh).

The film that is imprinted with the final moments of my 20s is a precious thing

Since the earthquake, it became a year of constantly trying to think of what we can do as Arashi, and also what I can do personally. I don't know how much I can actually do, or what has already been done, but to just keep thinking about it... That's all I can really say now. That and I think it’s important to continue doing carefully all that can be done from now on.

Recently I’ve been delighted at the amount of people who have been to see Kamisama no Karute. Actually, even my grandmother went to see it three times (laugh). Seeing people like the director and Harada Taizo recently, they also seemed pleased. It makes me truly happy if I was able to make the people who were impacted by the film happy. It makes this film that is imprinted with the final moments of my 20s something very special to me.

My private life has been fulfilling, doing things like visiting Russia, and also going on trips with my parents. Next I’d like to try going to Morocco. I heard from a friend that it’s really great. 2012 will also be a year of presidential elections for America, China and Russia. There will also be the Olympics and Paralympics, so even if it’s for news reporting, I want to make lots of trips overseas.

Winter Themed Q&A

Q1. What food do you associate with winter?

Nabe! I really like Hakata mizutaki [T/N: Hakata is a ward in Fukuoka; mizutaki is a chicken broth]. The kind with cloudy chicken broth. Of course when I go to Fukuoka I eat it, but I do a lot in Tokyo too.

Q2. Which Arashi song do you associate with winter?

I guess it would be Dear Snow.

Q3. If you were to add another word to the word “winter”?

Winter melon! So the word is ‘melon’ (laugh). I don’t really know why, but it was the first thing that came to mind, so… yeah (laugh). It’s not something you get the chance to eat all that often.

Q4. What sort of things make you think of winter?

Kotatsu. My grandfather had a horigotatsu [T/N: a sunken kotatsu built into the floor], so that left a strong impression with me.

Q5. What is it you want to do this winter?

Skiing. I went on an overnight skiing trip once with some friends, but when it got to night I drank too much and when I woke up in the morning there was no one there. Everyone had already gone out to the slopes. Apparently they tried to wake me, but it was no use and they had to give up… (laugh).

Q6. A plant you see in the winter?

Fir trees, of course!

Q7. What kind of season is winter to you?

My birthday is in winter, so… the season I was born.

Q8. Who in Arashi do you most associate with winter?

Is there someone like that in Arashi? Well right in the middle of winter on Christmas Eve we have Aiba-kun’s birthday, right? Except really I associate Aiba-kun more with spring (laugh).

Aiba Masaki

What is the first dream you want to have in the New Year!?

Well naturally I’d like to dream of Ichi-Fuji, Ni-Taka, San-Nasubi [T/N: “First - Mount Fuji, second - a hawk, third - an eggplant” - it is believed to be good luck to dream of these things]. So for the first dream, I’ll go with Mount Fuji. I’ve never dreamed of it before, so I’d like to at least once!

It was a year of many new experiences in many different places

If I had to say what it was in 2011 that left the greatest impression, firstly it would have to be getting to do Waku Waku School and live touring. I was also able to visit many different places and gain a lot of exciting experiences throughout the year, though interviewing the prime minister of Bhutan was incredibly nerve-racking. From March began Marching J, though that wasn’t just us; it was something that involved all of us and the fans feeling as one. From now on I want to use all of my strength along with everyone to do everything possible.

I’ve also challenged a personal first in doing the narration for the documentary film Nihon Rettou - Ikimonotachi no Monogatari [Japan's Islands - Tales of the Animals] (released February 4th, 2012). It was really enjoyable recording my voice while watching the images of nature, which I really love. I was really impacted in seeing this kind of "wild" in Japan, so I definitely want others to see it too.

The start of 2012 also marks the start of the next of our concerts, so I’m going to run at them at full speed!! And if after so long there’s a baseball team for me to play in, I’ll welcome that wholeheartedly!

Winter Themed Q&A

Q1. What food do you associate with winter?

Nabe. I guess kimchi-nabe, since hot things are good in winter. I like nabe, so even if it’s not winter, I still eat it (laugh).

Q2. Which Arashi song do you associate with winter?

The one that suddenly comes to mind is Fuyu no Nioi.

Q3. If you were to add another word to the word “winter”?

Moto Fuyuki-san [T/N: A Japanese actor. The “Fuyu” part is “winter”]. (Interviewer: In summer you said Natsuki Mari… [T/N: natsu = summer]) Eh? Really? I’d forgotten. I guess people’s names are the first thing I think of (laugh).

Q4. What sort of things make you think of winter?

Sapporo winter festival. I’ve never been before, but that’s the image that comes to mind.

Q5. What is it you want to do this winter?

For the first time in a long while I’d like to go skiing. I mean the last time I went skiing was as Mirror Man… (laugh). I want to do both skiing and snowboarding, but ever since fracturing a bone snowboarding back when I was in middle school it’s kind of scary.

Q6. A plant you see in the winter?

Mandarin. That’s a plant… right?

Q7. What kind of season is winter to you?

The air is nice and clear, so it seems like you can see really far in the winter. I really like that feeling.

Q8. Who in Arashi do you most associate with winter?

There are three members who were born in winter. If we exclude me, there’s Riida who was born in November, and Sho-chan who was born in January, so it’d be those two!

Matsumoto Jun

What is the first dream you want to have in the New Year!?

I want to dream that I’m playing for FC Barcelona. I’ll get a pass from Iniesta, then pass it to Messi… It’s so exciting (laugh).

It was a year that enabled me to experience many different things

2011 was a year of little solo work for me, but nevertheless a very eventful year. There was unforgettably the great earthquake in Eastern Japan, which lead me to really question what normal everyday life really is. In the wake of that we were able to do Waku Waku School and publically release Nippon no Arashi, both of which I am very grateful for.

As for individual work, I guess it was my first stage play in five years, Ah, Wild Field, which left the greatest impact. I feel like it was quite a luxurious time I was enabled to in doing it. I also think there must be a lot of things now that I can’t see, but will realise later about the stage when I look back. 2012 will also be the year of my 29th birthday. The countdown to the end of my 20s has already begun. The things I want to do before I turn 30, well actually I’ve already started doing them. Perhaps I could say that my stage play and upcoming drama are amongst those things. My new drama begins from January, and it’s going to be an action drama, so I’m really looking forward to that!

Winter Themed Q&A

Q1. What food do you associate with winter?

KFC pot pies! (laugh)

Q2. Which Arashi song do you associate with winter?

Fuyu no Nioi. I don’t think Arashi really have many wintery songs, but this is the one I have the impression of being the first winter song we sung.

Q3. If you were to add another word to the word “winter”?

Sakamoto Fuyumi [T/N: an enka singer; fuyu = winter], I guess. Well, that’s just what first came to mind.

Q4. What sort of things make you think of winter?

The Sapporo winter festival, and also the FIFA Club World Cup, since I watch it every year.

Q5. What is it you want to do this winter?

Well it feels like January of this year was over in an instant, but in 2012 there will be my new drama, “Lucky Seven”. It seems like I’ll be too busy with this to do much else. It’s an action drama, so I’m looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

Q6. A plant you see in the winter?

Fir trees. It’s hard not to think of anything but Christmas.

Q7. What kind of season is winter to you?

A warm season. Of course it’s actually cold, but I feel like there are a lot of kind of wondrous things in winter that warm you up inside.

Q8. Who in Arashi do you most associate with winter?

Aiba-kun, since he was born in winter. Riida and Sho-kun were also born in winter, but somehow I think Aiba-kun is more fitting to the winter image.

Ninomiya Kazunari

What is the first dream you want to have in the New Year!?

Well “Mount Fuji, a hawk, and an eggplant” is meant to be good luck, but not once have I heard an actual example of this (laugh), so I think it’s best to just enjoy each day.

In 2012 I want to make Arashi's variety shows even better

I guess the big things of 2011 were GANTZ, GANTZ: Perfect Answer, the Freeter, Ie wo Kau special, and Arashi’s live touring. It’s been about two years since we filmed GANTZ so it felt good to finally have it released.

As for work, I’m always thinking about what can I do to achieve this, how should I do this?, and yet I’m asked questions like “what was the fun part?” When I’m asked this I can’t just take a simple optimistic approach to it; I’m usually inclined to instead consider the question with more astringency. I guess I’ve reached that kind of age. While I want to apply this feeling and work hard again throughout 2012, first up we have concerts with all five of us, which I think is a great way to start things off. Then after that I’d like to work at making our three regular shows even better. As long as we can keep reaching our full potential, I want to keep making them more and more interesting.

Winter Themed Q&A

Q1. What food do you associate with winter?

I guess it would be nabe, just like regular yasunabe [T/N: where you just chuck everything in the pot at the table]. When the steam rises everywhere it really feels like winter.

Q2. Which Arashi song do you associate with winter?

Probably Fuyu wo Dakishimete [T/N: Embracing Winter]. I’m pretty sure that was released in winter.

Q3. If you were to add another word to the word “winter”?

Winter holidays(/vacation). I wonder what I used to do then. I hate the cold so I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have gone outside to play or anything. But as Arashi it makes me think of concert touring.

Q4. What sort of things make you think of winter?

Wouldn’t it have to be snow? Like snow fluttering down to the ground. Isn’t it pretty? It doesn’t necessarily snow in Tokyo every year, but more than the cold, I like the snow.

Q5. What is it you want to do this winter?

I’ll be busy in way one or another, so I just want to work cheerfully!

Q6. A plant you see in the winter?

I don’t know about winter plants. I don’t think there’s any association with winter like how summer is sunflowers, so I don’t really know.

Q7. What kind of season is winter to you?

It’s kind of a difficult season for me because I’m not good with cold. I have a bad back so when it gets cold it’s really no good. If I don’t get warm it’s really bad so I have to soak in the bath every day.

Q8. Who in Arashi do you most associate with winter?

That would have to be Aiba-san, born December 24th. Sho-chan’s birthday is in winter too, but since January is after the New Year, I think it’s more Aiba-san.

-------------------------

And a moment of celebration for Aiba's wedding birthday tomorrow! Happy Birthday~~!!! :D
