[Kisame is sitting outside the Pokécenter in Violet, with his Wooper and Octillery out. He's shunning the bench for the ground and seems to be using the clothesline that came in his pack as a jump rope for the Wooper. The tiny Wooper is looking tired but determinedly hopping over the rope each time Kisame and the Octillery swing it around

Pidgeotto did not change much when she evolved. She simply grew in size and had a few physical changes. Perhaps it is different for each Pokemon on how drastically their evolution may be.

[He tries to get Samehada off of him for a minute more before giving up. Why couldn't she have stayed a fish?]
Maybe it's just the fish that change so much.
[Nuru blows a raspberry at Growlithe and then scurries to hide behind Kisame.]

Samehada and Hiramekarei look nothing like they did before they evolved. Perhaps we will see if this is the case as we see more species. From what I've learned Growlithe cannot evolve without the assistance of a stone and Gastly is still some time away from evolving into his next form.
[Growlithe perks up at the raspberry and lets out an angry bark, showing off all of his sharp teeth to the little water Pokemon.]

[But he's not actually upset and is more amused than anything.]
We'll see more as we travel. It won't be long before my squad can take on this gym leader.
[Nuru squeaks in (faked) fear and pulls Kisame's sleeve up to hide more of herself. Samehada looks like she's contemplating a water gun but Kisame glares and she actually...stops. She's improving on the attacking without provocation front!]

[And Itachi really likes having a Pokemon with abilities that are similar to his own back in their world. Even if Gastly doesn't like him very much.]
Yes, it seems the more we move away from where we began, the more diverse the Pokemon seem to become.
[Growlithe growls for a moment, seemingly ready to launch a ball of fire at both water types, but Itachi places his hand on top of Growlithe's head and pats it lightly. Growlithe immediately backs down and settles down, thoug he does give both Nuru and Samehada a dirty look.]

[Kisame sees nothing wrong with releasing him if making Gastly listen seems impossible]
I'm sure we'll find some very interesting ones before we find the way back home.
[Kisame watches the exchange and laughs] They bicker as much as the other pairs do. Ironic, isn't it?
[He figures Itachi will get that he's talking about the other Akatsuki pairs.]

[Though...even in battle Gastly tends to loosely follow Itachi's commands.]
Yes, it is. Though perhaps someday they'll learn to get along...or at least to tolerate each other without picking unnecessary fights.
[Which knowing the track record of every Akatsuki pair except for them...it's very unlikely.]
You and I are proof that water and fire elements can work efficiently together.

[Kisame gives Samehada a look and she shrugs all eight arms back.]
She's getting better about it, but I don't know that she'll ever be forgiven. Nuru probably just needs to get the difference in strength pointed out to her. She stopped teasing Hiramekarei, mostly, after he evolved.
[More to his Pokémon than Itachi] We're partners and we get along just fine. So make more of an effort to tolerate each other, eh?

[Itachi nods to show that he agrees with Kisame's words as he gives Growlithe a light pet on the head.]
You would do well to listen to him. You are at fault just as much as they are.
[Growltihe whimpers and rests his head on Itachi's knee. He's not happy, but he'll try for Itachi's sake. But if one of Kisame's Pokemon so much as blows a bubble at him, there will be action taken!]

[Kisame thinks for a minute and then adds.] Neither of you want to disappoint me, right?
[Jackpot. Samehada huffs in a defeated way and Nuru makes the saddest little 'wooo' Kisame grins and gives them both pats...even if he winces very slightly after patting Nuru.]
...I didn't think that would actually work.

Your Pokemon are very fond of you, Kisame. It should not be such a surprise that they do not want to let you down.

I don't think anything's ever been fond of me before.
[He chuckles] First my Pokémon, then that woman that insists on being my "friend" and then the girl...
[...so the girl is mostly his fault. He did offer to teach her things.]

[See that Kisame? It's Itachi being humorous! Doesn't happen much, so enjoy it while it lasts.]

I can't argue with that!
[Almost musing to himself.] Maybe she was right and this is a world of truth...
Reply
[Itachi cannot fathom a thing being possible.]
Perhaps such a thing is possible in a world like this.

This one is closer to that ideal than our own...
But even for the slimmest chance of ours becoming a world of truth, I might even die knowing that I wouldn't see it myself but that others would.
[Watching Itachi closely, though. That's not the kind of thing you admit to a hardened clan killer.]
