010 // video/action for Cherrygrove (backdated to morning)

Jan 10, 2011 18:09

[ Hello again, Cherrygrove. Quistis went through this place so fast the first time, she barely remembers it, and as the feed comes up, she's looking around the snowy little city with a curious expression. ]

- didn't spend much time here on my way through, to be honest. Now that I look at it, it reminds me a little bit of my hometown, Balamb.

[ Quistis looks up from her 'Gear at hearing her name, then smiles at the familiar face. ]

Nanao. Good to see you. [ A beat, then: ] How's your arm doing?

{Nanao smiles back - it's always nice to meet someone face-to-face.}

It's good to see you too. {She rubs her arms in memory.} They're much better, and, luckily enough I managed to catch one of the ones that did it.

Taught it a lesson in the process, I assume? [ She laughs a little. ] I never caught a Sentret, myself. I was pretty much captivated by the Flying types.

She always seemed a little apologetic, it seemed to me, and so there wasn't the real need to discipline her.

I saw some, but wasn't able to catch them...

[ Quistis holds up a pair of Pokéballs between her fingers. ]

I started out with a Skarmory, which is Steel/Flying, and caught a Pidgey between New Bark and Cherrygrove. After that, I decided I should try to vary my team a little. [ She laughs. ]

Steel/flying? That makes sense... By the rules of this world, anyway.

{Considering} I've seen a few Pidgey and Spearow around, and I'm debating on which to catch at the moment.

There are some elemental properties in this world that I try not to think too hard about. Some of them make perfect sense, and then others... not so much.

I can't speak for Spearow, since I never caught one, but Pidgey - Pidgeotto, really - has been a lifesaver when it comes to transport and delivery. Aero delivered most of my Christmas presents, a care package to a sick man, items from the Goldenrod Department Store... he's excellent.

I can believe that. It seems that this world, the normal rules of biology have been completely ignored - for instance, one of my Pokemon hatched from an egg. And it's a floating moon.

I see - and could you ride him?

I think all Pokémon hatch from eggs. [ She knits her brow a little. ] At least, from what I've seen.

He couldn't carry me very far or very high yet, but I think once he evolves again, he might be able to. King, on the other hand, is big enough to carry me on land, running. He stands as tall as me. [ She gestures near the top of her head, a little over five and a half feet from the ground. ]

Really? Hmm, maybe there was some merit to being a breeder after all..

I see - so evolution unlocks more potential within the Pokemon themselves... That's taller than I am. {Lineface.}

I hear the breeders got handbooks with a lot more information about breeding. [ She makes a mournful sort of sound. ] I'm a trainer, so....

It certainly seems to. [ She laughs a little again. ] I'm taller than most women, I guess. Seems that's standard height for a Skarmory, though.

That's true, I did receive such a book. {Headtilt} Would you like to borrow it?

{Thoughtful glance at Kiyone} I wonder what will happen to you, you mischievous thing. {Shrug} I can see that. {The top of her head reaches Quistis' nose.}

Standard height... That seems odd, for a species. For example, there is natural variation within each species, in fur colour or marking, or height.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to look it over on the trip back to Violet. Have you read it, yourself?

- I think there is some variation within Pokémon species, but not much, appearance-wise. Height and weight are fairly uniform, colouration doesn't change much from one individual to the next, from what I've seen. It is sort of strange.

Of course you may! However, you may find that I've made copius notes in the margins, so it's not in the best condition...

That is very bizarre... {Sigh} Again, this world completely rewrites the laws of nature to suit it's own purpose.

I'm sure the notes will be helpful, if anything.

I think it's more accurate to say that this world has completely different laws of nature. If there's anything I've learned in my time here, it's that every world does.
