The (Past 2) Week(s) in Pop

What I Watched:
I watched less movies these past couple of weeks than I have been, but I've been to the movie theater probably twice as much! I watched some old favorites: The Patriot, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,  and Pleasantville. I borrowed a couple from Cin: St. Elmo's Fire and The Family Stone. I liked the former, but I still haven't made up my mind on the latter. It mostly has to do with the ending, which I won't give away in case you haven't seen it. Let me know when you watch it and we will discuss. I saw Shallow Hal on TV and must say that I was disappointed in Jack Black. He's either in really great movies, like School of Rock and The Holiday, or crappy like the aforementioned and Saving Silverman.
So I've been to the movie theater three times in the past week, which may be a record for me. Court and I saw Evan Almighty, which I was a little skeptical about, but it ended up being quite a cute movie. It was pretty family oriented and there were some VERY funny moments. I love Steve Carrell. Licensed to Wed was also a cute movie. It was fairly predictable, but Mames and I decided that it was okay for this particular movie. It also had its funny moments, especially Robin Williams. Cin, Dwaun and I saw 1408 and I thought they were gonna pee on themselves before the movie even started haha. There were a lot of jumpy moments, which I think makes for a great scary movie! It was quite strange, but much better than the past couple of scary movies we've seen in the theater.
As for television, the best things I saw were musically oriented. Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson were on CMT's show Crossroads and it was AWESOME. If you have not seen it, you must check it out. This duo are completely amazing together. I also watched the Concert for Princess Diana, where I enjoyed Joss Stone's set and Take That's old song "Back for Good."

What I Listened To:
This week Mamie and I went to see a concert which featured a band with one of her friends. We missed the first act, Haley Shaw, which was unfortunate because I've heard that she is very talented. We did see Mike Mewborne, and then the band we came to see, Run Dan Run. RDR reminded me of Death Cab for Cutie, especially at first. Then they got into a little more guitar rock, including this song "Wasted Love," which was fabulous. They played at this place called The Watershed, which looks like it is basically going to be the new Jammin Java, so at least there is somewhere for people to play now! Anyway, I also got a copy of RDR's CD, which is very enjoyable as well. It's pretty mellow and 'cool,' good chillin out music.
The Live Earth concerts happened this weekend, and while I did not watch much of it, all of the performances are now streaming online at MSN, so I've been listening to a lot of them. They're pretty sweet. And here's my list of downloads for the week:

What I Read:
I read my next installment of A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Hostile Hospital. I still have four or five left, but I am finishing them slowly but surely. I also read Loser by Jerry Spinelli. It was an easy read and actually quite interesting. It's written of course for a fifth or sixth grader, but it kind of dissects the reason this particular child ended up being an outcast and a 'loser.' It made me start wondering about some of the people I went to high school with and how they were when they were younger. It's a worthwhile read if you have the time.
