Is it really possible to be annoyed with your own brain? Because I really am. Not in an angry way (well...not really), but just more of a "wut is this, I don't even..." kind of way. I mean...honestly, Brain? Why are you doing this to me?
There are two reasons for the my personal WTF-ery today.
#1:
A few days ago I was getting ready for work, and as I was eating breakfast I was watching a little TV when I noticed that the old Wild Thornberrys movie was on one of the movie channels. Anyone remember that show? About a girl who talks to animals, her family travels the world for her dad's documentary show...? *ahem* Anyway, so I was watching a little of it, because I honestly haven't seen the movie since it first came out when I was a kid. And, curious idiot that I am, I decide to record it so I can catch the ending before I leave for work. When I got the time, I finished the movie...and quickly remembered why I didn't like it the first time I watched it.
To be honest, I was never a real big Wild Thornberrys fan. I mean, I did like the idea of it. It appealed to the kid in me who wished to talk to animals myself, and who imagined growing up traveling the world and studying animals too. I also did enjoy a few choice episodes (particularly, any of the ones where Eliza got to spend some quality time with her father, Nigel). But it wasn't my favorite show ever, and I only ever watched it when nothing else was on...and only occasionally. I can't even remember why I went to see the movie the first time, let alone deciding to watch it those few days ago.
But somehow, as I was watching the movie this time around, I was surprised to be drawn to Eliza and Darwin's friendship, particularly during the time when Eliza lost her ability to talk to animals. And...wouldn't ya know it? I somehow got a story idea about it! *facepalm*
So the story takes place during the movie, sometime between Eliza losing her powers and getting them back. Because, as I was watching the movie this time, I found myself disappointed that we couldn't see how Darwin felt or thought during that time. I know the show is about Eliza, and since she lost her ability to understand Darwin then the audience did too, but I honestly wondered what was going through Darwin's head when he realized that he and Eliza couldn't speak to each other. So the story is about Darwin's thoughts; about what he said to Eliza right before her powers were taken away, worrying about what she thought about him after their argument, how he felt thinking that he'd never be able to apologize or understand what she said to him. I plan to have the story kind of mention how Darwin had only been concerned about her, and the little things he did to try and show her that they're still friends even if they can't talk to each other any more. And, near the end of the movie when Eliza goes off to save the elephants and face the poachers, how Darwin worries that his efforts weren't enough and she still didn't know, and how he would have done anything if only she came back safely.
Thinking about the story in my head, it might be kind of cute. I took a glance at the Wild Thornberry section on FF.net, and friendship fics between Eliza and Darwin are rather lacking. But...seriously?! How the heck did this happen?!
#2
So...there's this guy. We're friends, and I love him a lot. But I also...kinda sorta like him too. I don't think anything will work out between us, though, so I've never wanted to attempt anything. Plus, it's one of those cliche moments where I love him too much to risk losing our friendship, yadda yadda yadda. But that doesn't stop me from imagining things were different, and wondering what it'd be like if the two of us ever really got together.
And he has this...this scent about him. Gah, that sounds really weird and I feel really embarrassed for saying it. But there's this scent I pick up whenever we're a little too close to each other, and it's...it's nice. I can't really describe it, but it's nice, and I like it a lot.
Well, at work today, I kept catching a similar scent. It wasn't exactly the same, but it was close enough that it got me thinking about him whenever I caught it, and I would sometimes drift off into my little imaginary world. And you know how sometimes when you're daydreaming, you get little images that you don't intend to think of, but they just pop up all of a sudden and you wonder where the hell they came from?
Such an image popped up today, as I caught the scent once again and suddenly found myself visualizing that the guy and me were married, and we had a daughter.
...What?!
Dear Brain, you are in danger of being shut down due to weirdness. Please stop before action must be taken. Thank you.
Anyway, I'm going to try distracting myself from disturbing thoughts with writing a new Phineas and Ferb fic. Wish me luck.
But first, the Fanfic Writing meme.
Day 23 - When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
The most common place I post my stuff is on my FF.net profile. However, I am working on putting all the stories I've ever written (including ones not on FF.net) on this journal (backdated, of course). And I have a few selected stories that I plan on putting on my DA account. We'll see how that goes, though.
Day 1 - How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in? Day 2 - Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it. Day 3 - For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write? Day 4 - Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse? Day 5 -If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it? Day 6 - When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters? Day 7 - Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character? Day 8 - Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.
Day 9 - Pairings - For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favorite pairings to write? Day 10 - Pairings - Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could? Day 11 - Genre - do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most? Day 12 - Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom? Day 13 - Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material? Day 14 - Ratings - how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead? Day 15 - Warnings - What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic? Day 16 - Summaries - Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them? Day 17 - Titles - Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not? Day 18 - Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from? Day 19 - When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use? Day 20 -Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom? Day 21 - Sequels - Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels? Day 22 - Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not? Day 23 - When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
Day 24 - Betaing - How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
Day 25 - Music - Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
Day 26 - What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
Day 27 - Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?
Day 28 - Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?
Day 29 - What is your current project or projects?
Day 30 - Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!
