Shipping Essay

This is for disney_uberland's Mini Shipping Manifesto challenge. I had wanted to get this done a lot sooner, but it was actually kind of hard to write. Even now, at just a little over the minimum word count, I still think it's not that great. But I wanted to do something. Plus, I saw Toy Story 3 yesterday (OMG I LOVED THAT MOVIE, I WANNA GO SEE IT AGAIN!!!), and couldn't help but do something in honor of that. Hee hee...so here we go.

(Just a bit of warning though: This is less of why Woody and Bo Peep are good together, and defiintely more of why Bo Peep is a good match for Woody....hehe...hope that's okay...)

Many people would agree that love is one of the most important things in life, and even among toys this seems to be no exception. Perhaps it may seem odd to imagine that toys experience complex emotions like love, but in a way it makes sense. After all, the whole reason toys are created is to be given to and to be loved by a child. Since that is their purpose, it then makes sense that toys would be able to recognize love if and where it exists. And this is especially true as far as Woody and Bo Peep are concerned.

At times, this relationship could be confused for the stereotypical damsel in distress falling in love with the hero who constantly saves her. Indeed, Andy seems to recreate this particular scenario between them often, where Bo Peep is in trouble of some kind and Woody would come to her rescue. It wouldn't be difficult to think that the events from Andy's imagination would carry over into real feelings between Woody and Bo Peep. Others may argue that the only reason Woody has feelings for Bo Peep is because she's a beautiful porcelain doll, and so his feelings for her are rather superficial.

This is not the case, however, for Woody and Bo Peep's relationship runs much deeper than that. Despite being made of porcelain, Bo Peep is certainly not a weak character. She is clear about her feelings for Woody and isn't afraid to remind him, no matter who is around to see. There are also times when Woody seems to rely on her; being in charge of the toys in Andy's room for so many years, Woody has had to be strong for all of them, to help get them through trouble in case it comes up. But he can't be strong all the time, and Bo Peep is there when he needs someone else to be strong for a while. She shows a lot of patience with Woody, and tries to reason with him when he's worried, such as when Buzz first arrived and Woody believed he was being replaced. She's also able to calm him down when he's acting irrational, such as when he thought Andy would leave him behind when he lost his hat.

Above all else, Bo Peep continues to believe in Woody, even when it's hard. Even during his jealousy towards Buzz, she never blamed him for it as the others did. Instead, she only continued to worry for him and hoped that he would understand the truth. And even through the novelty and her own fascination with Buzz, she continued to support and stand by Woody, her feelings never faltering no matter what.

Because though Buzz is Woody's best friend, Bo Peep is the one who knows him best. Over the years, she and Woody have gotten to know each other very well. She loves him for who he is, and loves him despite what he's not. During the few times he stumbles, she's there to help him back up, creating a fit that compliments him almost perfectly. And it's clear to see how much Woody loves her for it in return.
