One of those "comment to get 7 topics to write about" memes. The topics I got were from
rose_of_pollux, and I meant to post them earlier, but things kept getting in the way. I couldn't sleep now, though, so I thought I might as well go ahead and do this while I have the chance, haha.
1. Pokémon
Honestly, I love Pokémon, but it's kind of hard for me to keep up with all the generations past...the first one. Heh...Yeah, I know the first generation the best, and the second generation pretty well thanks to HeartGold. I know a few scattered Pokémon from the generations after that, but...I really need to play games from each generation.
The anime is...eh. I liked it early on, but it's kind of dragging a bit now. I've seen some episodes from Best Wishes, and it makes me cringe how Ash is...still the same. Okay, I get that he's in a new region with new Pokémon, that's fine, but the problem is that he acts like he's never trained Pokémon at all. And that Pikachu, man! What is the deal with it? How does a Pikachu that - probably - has been leveling up and training for so long lose to a (most likely) level 5 Snivy? It should not be possible.
Ugh, sorry. Mini-rant over. On the plus side, I kind of like Cilan. He's up there with Brock, Tracey, and Gary on my favorite anime characters, though sometimes his constant comparisons to cooking can be a bit much. We get it, Cilan, you're a food guy.
Anyway...my favorite Pokémon is Eevee and its evolutions, Brock and Green (or Blue in English, I guess) are my favorite gym leaders, and Silver is my favorite rival...So far, anyway. Like I said, I'm most familiar with the first two generations, haha.
2. Kratt Bros.
I first saw the Kratt Bros back when I was a kid, thanks to my younger brother watching their show, Kratts' Creatures (and I recently learned that the voice of Ttark is the same guy who voiced Artemis from the Sailor Moon dubs...and now I will never unhear it). I love animals, and there was something really cool about a two-brother team teaching kids about animals. They, along with Jeff Corwin, became my favorite guys to learn about animals from. I also ended up gaining a crush on Chris, the younger brother, heehee.
Admittedly, though, I wasn't too fond of the Kratts' following show, Zoboomafoo. I was getting a little older, and it was about that time in my life where the thought of watching any show with a puppet seemed too...babyish. So I lost track of the Kratts, especially when my family moved to Taiwan for two years. Luckily, during that time, I decided it was okay to enjoy things I liked, no matter the intended age group. Haha.
Cut to two years ago, when I was in Australia and channel flipping because I had nothing to do at my aunt's house. I caught an episode of Be the Creature and realized that the Kratt Bros were still doing stuff. A year after that, I was channel surfing again, and saw a listing for Wild Kratts (I still remember what episode that was, too..."Falcon City", haha). It wasn't until I changed the channel to it that I realized Wild Kratts was actually animated. But I didn't care, and from that moment I remembered how much I loved the Kratts, and fell in love with them all over again.
I still watch Wild Kratts, and Be the Creature whenever the episodes air. I'm waiting for the newer episodes of Wild Kratts to show in television, though, in hopes of getting inspiration for the story I'm writing about it...heh.
3. Disney movies
My staple in life, haha. Seriously, I love Disney movies; mostly the animated kind, though I'll watch some of the live-action ones too. I know a lot of people complain about Disney movies lately, but I like a lot of the animated ones they've come out with. They're just fun and give me a lot of feels. Not much to say about this topic, other than I love to watch them.
Speaking of Disney movies, though, has anyone seen the trailer for the new one, Wreck-It Ralph? Dr. Eggman and King Bowser are in it! Along with several characters from other video games (Street Fight? How'd they get the rights for these guys?) I was completely geeking out about it, haha.
4. Once Upon a Time
I'm not sure how much I can say about this topic either, considering I haven't really kept up with the series. I know general things thanks to spoilers I've read, and I really like the concept of the show and want to watch more of it to see how it is for myself. But having not caught up with the episodes yet, there's not too much I can talk about with this at the moment.
Though I must say, I do really like the RumBelle idea. I think I'm shipping them pretty hard. Heehee.
5. Super Mario
This is the first video game I can ever remember, other than Sonic the Hedgehog. But Super Mario comes earlier in my memories, whenever I recall watching my older sister playing video games. Whenever we visited our aunt, my sister would pull out my aunt's NES and play Super Mario 3, and I just love watching her play it.
My younger brother is the one playing the more recent Mario games, but I still like watching him play it. I've also got a few Mario games that I actually play myself, haha. My favorite character is Luigi, and I'm sad that he doesn't get a lot of recognition in the games. But that's what the fans are for, I guess, and we're definitely give him plenty of love.
6. TMNT
I grew up with the 80's cartoon of TMNT, which was fun to watch as a kid. My favorite character was Donatello...mostly because he wore purple. But he was also really smart, and he built a lot of cool things. My memories of the series itself are pretty fuzzy though, so I think I really did like Donatello mostly because of the color. I also remember having a Donatello doll, but I honestly have no idea where that got to all these years later.
I also really liked the live-action movies - the first two...not the third one (the third one is just...ick). The second one in particular, because that one focused a little more on Donatello, and it was nice to see him showing off his smarts there.
But I really like the TMNT series that came out in 2003. Granted, I didn't watch the series as it came out; I got into it a long time later, when it was nearing the end. But I really liked the more serious story-lines with a mix of humor for the kids, and the characterizations, and the relationships of the brothers with each other and Master Splinter. And of course, Donnie once again stole my heart; he was just so complex and loveable, and...downright woobie-ish, as a matter of fact. But you can't help but love woobie characters, haha.
I'm a little afraid of the new TMNT series that Nickelodeon's coming out with soon. Especially since they changed Donatello's bo staff to a naginata...I'll have to see where they go with that, I guess. I'm also going to be really distracted by the fact that Rob Paulsen is going to voice Donnie, because he was the voice of Raphael in the 80's cartoon. And as much as I love the voice actor Kevin Michael Richardson, I'm not sure how good a Shredder he'll be. I'm afraid it may end up falling into the same way that his performance as the Joker in The Batman turned out (which was...not one of his best roles). So we'll see. Greg Cipes as Michelangelo and Mae Whitman as April might be interesting...maybe...
7. Fanfic
Ah, my favorite pastime. I'll spare everyone the story of how I got into fanfics, though, because I think I've told that enough times, haha.
I love writing fanfics; it's a lot of fun for me, as a Psychology major, to try and get into the characters' heads and see what they're thinking and feeling, why they might do what they do, or say or think or act how we see them. I like looking at the interactions between characters; romantically, platonic, family or otherwise. And I like trying to write something that hasn't been done before, to look at something that everyone has seen and come up with something no one else thought of.
Granted, that doesn't always happen, but I get a good idea now and again.
It can get a bit tough to get all the words out, though. Like, you know how an idea can be great in your head, but you have trouble translating that into words and getting it in print? I have that problem all the time. That's why it takes me so long to write a story, because I need to think about the words, but lately haven't had enough time to do so. It makes me sad...but I'm hoping to write a few story ideas I have sometime soon.
I always seem to say that, though, so no guarantees, haha.
That's about it, I think. Gosh, I didn't realize how much I can talk about stuff...
