- title taken from the first thing that came to mind just now. XD’ tablet mouse was acting sluggish for some reason, so I plugged in a new mini-mouse that I got as a freebie when I went to the bank with Mom the other day - ‘cause our bank is awesome like that. But seriously, this mouse is all shoom! Quick as, well, a mouse running from a cat - or quite possibly faster even. It’s going to take a bit of time to control it, but meh.
But anyway, school is going forward as usual. Bought some supplies I’ll be needing for the rest of my art class this semester yesterday morning - including INDIA INK~! :D I’m tempted to do some experimenting with that stuff if I have any left after I finish the class. I bought two bottles because I wasn’t sure how long this stuff tends to last or how much I’d need, so if I overestimated, that’s just a new inking medium for me to play around with. Just like some of the new Copic markers I got too~! (They’re not required for the class, but I figure the most affordable way to build up a sufficient repertoire of Copics is to buy one or two - or in the case of what I did on Wednesday, five - each time I’m at an art store that carries them, instead of going totally broke all at once). Whereas I only had fleshtones and blues before, I now have a couple of yellows and a red! And… what else did I get? *looks in art bag* Oh! Another blue (‘cause I can never have enough tones of that color in my palette already) and a cool gray. And I got some new ink pens too, and two sets of pastels (we need both oil and dry for our class, apparently), and I replenished some of my charcoal stock (goodness knows we use enough of that stuff in this class), and a sharpener, and watercolor paper and some Conte crayons and-and…
Okay I’ll shut up about my shiny new art supplies now. Sorry, it’s just that I hardly EVER get any new art stuff except occasionally restocking some essential colors in my Prismacolor pencils and sketchbooks as needed - unless It’s required for a class like what I’m doing right now; most of the time unless I’m really lucky I have to ink with office pens (not ballpoint, usually gel, but still). Oh, the woes of being an artist from a poor family. Then again my family isn’t exactly dirt poor - we could be a heck of a lot worse for wear than we are, believe me - and I’m grateful for what I do have - and to be honest, usually the materials I do have access to, plus my tablet and Photoshop, are often all I need to create my art.
… Still, it is a neat feeling to have a variety of tools at my disposal, should I need them or feel like doing something different… or if I just feel like working with charcoal as an excuse to get my hands dirty. :p Though honestly I love working with charcoal and hate it at the same time - the feeling of getting down and dirty to create a work of art is kind of fulfilling, and almost makes me feel like, dare I say it, something more than a mere anime artist struggling to improve. But then when you’re done being artsy, it’s aggravating to get it off your hands so you can do other things - like eat finger food and pet your cat without staining his/her fur. Though if you own a black cat, I guess the latter isn’t as much of a problem - but most of my cats have rather light-colored fur/fur color that you can see charcoal on should it get on it somehow. Not to mention that charcoal can be a hard medium to work with if you can’t learn to control it.
And now I’ll REALLY shut up about art and talk about something else… maybe. I dunno, other than some pressure from the fact that the clock is ticking on my Honors project and I’m currently in kind of a rut with Chapter 3 - when I need to finish a chapter a week to get the full draft done in time - not to mention the ton of reading I have to do for all of my classes by next week… there really isn’t much else to talk about. I dunno, maybe the unplanned rambling about art supplies was needed to un-stress my nerves.
