Sites, links!!

So... are fansites dying? Is it really just fanlistings now, and nothing else? What happened to the good old days, when people made extensive shrines to the characters they loved? Seriously, I tried searching for Fruits Basket sites and about 90% of everything that came up was a fanlisting ( Read more... )

I think our generation of sites are dying, which sucks considering we really had the meat in our collectives while most of today's collectives are just all skin and bones. :X

If I were to update links I'd go through my links list of meaty collectives, check out their links page and hope they've updated it more than I have. ROFL. XD It's been a looong while since I've link-hopped.

Yeah, I think they are. It seems like people only build character shrines for the really, really popular series like Naruto and Bleach. :X

I think a majority of collectives back in the day kind of sucked for content too, though. XD I think it's changed more in terms of numbers rather than ratio. Which still sucks. X|

LOL. That's what I sometimes do too. XDD I try to do some searches too, but it's hard these days. I did find a nice link directory that has a lot of potential that I'm going to post about later. :3

Haha my Rin/Isuzu FL used to be a shrine, but I killed it b/c it was looking kinda ugly D: I'm thinking about reviving it though~ fanlisting w/o pages to read are just too sad, but it's even sadder that just before you've got a moment to shrinify something, more subjects get removed and you're stuck with those stupid deadlines. It's a bad cycle and habit, really LOL

OMG. BRING IT BACK. XDDDDD

Seriously, I LOVE Rin. And I remember your shrine/FL, it was awesome! Fanlistings without pages to read really are sad... at least when that's all there is for a series. Seems like all of the Furuba sites just stopped existing and have been replaced with very basic FLs. ^^;;;

Really though, it's totally understandable about the deadlines. T_T I'm totally in that boat. I've finally gotten more inspired to work on stuff at home now, but it's so hard to do anything after working all day. :|

I think its just with blogs/forums and stuff, people can make 'groups' and then share the stuff like "info, opinions, media, etc" and character shrines probably cost money while things like I mentioned don't. Of course thats just a guess. XD;

Yeah, maybe you're right... I guess there are a lot of LJ communities and forums and stuff now for people to post at. It's not like it's hard to make them anymore. ^^ I don't know if it's so much a money thing though... so many people have domains these days, you know? :9

I've felt for a while that shrine-making is a dying craft, and lately the internet has begun to reflect that feeling more and more. I began shrine-making in the late 90s, and things have changed drastically in the past eight years. I remember when the indepth character analysis was the new craze and shrine-makers (at least the more passionate ones) put their effort into research rather than simply aesthetics. I am currently working on reviving my collective, but it almost seems pointless. I'm hoping that the quick-and-easy fanlisting craze will subside as fans crave a more intellectually stimulating way to connect with their favorite series and characters.
