We were gonna have good ol' KD for dinner this afternoon when Steve found out that the milk we just bought six days ago went bad. Yup, allsunday, that milk we bought on the Sunday we went grocery shopping? It was already chunky and smelled so bad Steve could barely manage not to upchuck while pouring it down the drain. :P So it didn't just go bad after 6 ( Read more... )

Just keep on their asses about it until they get so sick of you they have to do something.

And I'm sorry to say, but your apartment building is probably the worst I've ever been to, in terms of basic maintanance. I rented an apartment for two years and we only ever had to have the repairman fix our garbage disposal. :/ Just because you're renting, doesn't mean you have to live in sub-par conditions. Hell, it's not like you don't pay enough for that place...

TESTIFY!!
Demanding what you were promised when you signed your rental agreement forces them legally to keep the place up.

If it comes down to that, we will. I'm just glad that we don't seem to have to fight for it at this point. :X If we don't get anyone at least coming up here to look at the problem and make arrangements for when they can bring in a new one, I'm going to be contacting the city about it. They have that Apartment Standards web site and it's really effective in getting what you want when the landlord doesn't seem to be cooperating. :3

Sadly, there are worse places to rent around here; this place isn't actually so bad compared to a few other places that I've heard of. But it certainly isn't great, either. x_x The apartment itself isn't even so bad since we keep it up well but the rest of the building is pretty... eehhh... Anyway, we're looking for a new place, but it's really hard to find a good non-basement apartment in a good location for less than $900 a month. :X

But yes, we're definitely going to continue harassing them until they give us a new fridge. The lady downstairs was sympathetic about it but really, that doesn't seem to mean a whole lot in this place. :P

Some refrigerator units depend on the freezer side to keep the rest of the frigde cold. have you tried checking to see if there are any vent in either compartment that are covered ?

I'm not quite sure if that's how our fridge works... the plastic door to the freezer is hanging at an angle so cold air is leaking through there. It's overall just a very, very old fridge that needs to be replaced... even if they can fix it, they should still replace it since it's not energy efficient at all. :X
