Packing like a madman. I'd hoped to spend much of last week packing, after a trip to Boulder where I found what looks like a very nice place. (Good location, good---or as-good-as-I'll-get---price, apparently-sane roommate, etc.) I came back to SLC on the 29th, in order to testify in court, which is another story entirely. I'd hoped to get my ( Read more... )

Good luck wished! Moving is a royal pain, but worth it.

From the Mokee dugway to The Monkey Wrench Gang, this article made me think of you the other day.

I hope so. I've been telling myself for quite a while that this is what I want to do with my life. But still, there's an immediacy about having all my stuff loaded up, and seeing the very bare room I'm leaving behind. This is the right thing. Really.

I'm of two minds about the article. On the one hand, it's about what I'd expect from a NYT article about $2000 guided bike tours. On the other, the places are awesome.

(True confession: I hadn't driven the Moki Dugway until last fall. At least I managed to get the census to pay for it.)

Also, while sorting through old files of notes from college, I came across some pages of notes from that San Rafael Swell trip, which had been squirreled away somewhere. Those were good times.

Heh. Yeah, the NYT travel section is always an exercise in eyerolling, isn't it? I didn't remember the spelling, and am a bit horrified they got it wrong. I thought they were one of the last papers around with decent fact-checking. The capitalization error was all my fault, though.

Those were indeed good times. I haven't been back in that area in many years, but I fly over it surprisingly frequently, and I am always plastered to the window when I do.

A safe, interesting, and speedy drive to you.

From what I recall, the road sign at the dugway spells it Mokee, so you have nothing to feel guilty about. What that says about the spelling skills of rural Utah county road crews, on the other hand....

Grin. Thanks!

What a pity that I'm heading east just as you and Yitz will, for once, be in the same hemisphere as I am.
