Check check....is this thing on?
So it's been a year (to the week) since I last posted to this journal, and probably a year and a half since I've posted anything of substance. But it still exists, and so do I. And fortunately, so do the friends who've been a bit better about keeping their journals (or blogs, or facebooks, or twitters...) up to date. So it's high time I did a better job of keeping in touch.
Most people who are reading this probably know by now about some of the changes that have happened in my life over the past couple of years. (For those who don't, I'll post some further details under friends-lock.) In brief, I've finished my masters' program and am back in Salt Lake City, where I've found work with the Census Bureau. It's not quite how I imagined my life would go, and it's certainly not where I want to be long-term, but for now it's enough to keep me occupied and (more or less) happy.
Meanwhile, I've been doing quite a bit of traveling, both recreationally and as part of the academic life that's presently on my back burner. I've found some interesting topics for further research, done a lot of contra dancing, and am slowly chipping away at getting some of my past work written up and published. At present, I'm hoping to build an application package for a fresh round of grad school apps this fall/winter. (The economy sucks, and I seem to be pretty bad at finding geography-focused employment in the real world....)
That's the brief summary, at least. As time goes on, I'll try to fill in the details of the past, talk about new developments, muse, rant, and (with any luck) keep in touch with some good friends.
