So, my youngest and I are curious --- are there particular guidelines/rules/concepts you are following when balancing rocks, or is it just about the balance itself? Any aesthetic considerations? I will have to take a shot of P's first trial. I saw your pictures and immediately knew he would find this fascinating, which he does. And rocks, we got (tho' not as nice a selection as in your pictures!)
I'm still learning. Today I'm going on my first trip that's specifically for the purpose of rock balancing, so I hope to learn the answers to these questions.
For me, the balance has to look improbable, but also be beautiful. Since they don't stay up very long, taking a good photograph is an important skill that goes with balancing.

today i drove past a sign on 495, not far from marlborough that i swear said something like "rock balance farm". huh. well.
