I was at a friends' birthday party Saturday and got to see some Brothers Quay shorts, which I hadn't seen in about 15 years. I think the best one I've seen is the Street of Crocodiles one, although the Cabinet of Jab Svankmeyer has its charms. One thing that amuses me about their style is that there's not much plot to them; they're mostly about characters looking at weird things and being weirded out.
They are so much better than that Neil Gaiman film "Mirrormask", which was obviously trying for the same feel. Not that there weren't some decent things in "Mirrormask", but I was disappointed with the storyline and some of the art direction and cinematography.
