Kids don’t know how to lie. They just can’t do it right. I was investigating a case a few days ago and I was speaking to a 7yr old girl. She told me that a particular person hit her little brother with a stick. When a kid says something like that you have to really know the signs to take an allegation like that seriously. Their words can put someone in jail. I asked her, “Do you know the difference between the truth and a lie?” She said, “No”. I asked her [Holding up a piece of paper], “If I told you this piece of paper was white would I be telling the truth?” She said, “Yes”. I asked, “If I told you this piece of paper was blue would I telling a lie?” She said, “Yes”. I said, “See you do know the difference between telling the truth and telling a lie”. I continued with, “Did someone tell you to tell me that someone hit your brother with a stick?” She said, “Yes”. I asked, “Who told you that?” She said, “My dad”.

And that’s what parents do to get back at each other. They use their kids as pawns in their game. This father is a piece of shit but what can you do about it? I had to treat him with respect and give him due diligence even though I knew he made his kids lie to me to get back at his ex. I got both of his kids to confess that they were lying. They teach their kids to lie to the police to get others in trouble. If I had just got on the job I wouldn't have asked her all that. Thank goodness I know how to talk to people.
