So yeah. I quit BJJ months ago. You probably figured that out. One month I just didn't have the money to pay for it and I just... stopped going.

Fortunately, in October Ivan Salaverry opened a gym and I've been going there since. I'm mostly training boxing and kickboxing, but I've been to a few wrestling and submission wrestling classes. He's a great teacher and makes everything easy to understand. He works us hard, but I don't ever really feel like throwing up when I'm training there. I used to feel like that ALL THE TIME at BJJ. So that's a plus.

Mostly now I'm learning how to hit people properly. It's a little more difficult to explain than BJJ submissions, so when I start going to more Submission Wrestling classes, I can get back to writing about martial arts.

The hardest thing about boxing so far has been learning to throw punches with your body. You just kind of stick your arm out there and thrust/twist/push off depending on what kind of punch you're throwing. I found out in the first week that I can hit a bag damn hard if I throw a left hook correctly, but it feels weird to do. I guess that's part of learning to box.

Also, you need strong calves! I've been going for 3-4 months now, and I JUST RECENTLY have been able to get through an entire class without my calves aching. Boxing stances require you to be on your toes the entire time, and that puts almost all of the stress is put on your calves. I was hoping that strength training wouldn't be THAT important and would come in time, but if you want to work on anything and considering learning to box, STRENGTHEN YOUR LEGS or you'll be in pain.

Haven't been for a week or so. Been feeling sick. I'll report back next time I go.
