I think it won't hit me until I graduate just how close I am to graduating as long as I push myself. I think my biggest problem of all is that I don't know exactly what I want to focus on. I'm pretty much done with my major elective classes, but I wish I haven't had anything yet I found I want to specialize it. The idea of doing an iphone app intrigued me, but since apple doesn't allow the sdk to be installed on windows machines and my reluctance to attempt a hackintosh by virtualization (which is about as legal as pirating a copy thanks to Mac's EULA), I've decided to start picking up Python/Pygame in my freetime.
But yeah, the first draft of my schedule for next semester:
Philosophy 134 (Philosophy of Science)
MW 9-10:15am
3 Units
Physics 50
M 1030-1220pm
4 Units
Com Sci 49C (Programming in C/C++)
MW 1600-1715pm
3 Units
Math 129A (Linear Algebra I)
MW 1730-1845pm
3 Units
This is a total of 13 Units with the possibility of adding one additional course depending on my plans for work or lack thereof work next semester. If I do pick an additional course, it will be one of the following:
Bus 186 (Professional and Business Ethics)
Tues 1900-2145 OR Thur 1900-2145 OR MW 1330-1445
3 units
CS 149 (Operating Systems)
MW 1330-1445
3 units
CS 152 (Programming Paradigms)
MW 1330-1445
3 units
PSYC 191 (Psychology of Prejudice)
M 1800-2045
To be honest, of those, I want to take PSYC 191 just for kicks. It fills one of my upper division requirements. Also it reminds me that I earned an A+ in Black Psychology. I should maybe let that sink in for a while.... However I don't want to be at school that late and BUS 186 fills the same requirement. There is also the chance that I can enroll for winter session. If I can do it, I can sign up for BUS 186 then and be done with that course and can then take one of the two CS courses that fit in my schedule.
If I do take 16 units for spring, I will only have 19 units left until I graduate. If I take the winter session, the number drops to 16. If I take summer school, I can reduce it to 13-10 units. The problem with summer school is that I'll probably be limited to the choice of just two courses: Calculus II or Philosophy of Science (or both if I time it well enough thanks to De Anza). I like the idea of having only 10 units for last fall though, that gives me plenty of time to work on the final project and do a lot more documentation and white-box testing than I've done in my previous group projects.
I should be excited that I'm so close, but it will probably be a while before it sinks in. Hell, the fact that I have an A.A. hasn't sinked in yet, nor the fact that I could be the first in my immediate family to earn a B.S. degree. My oldest sister is in progress of earning her RN license, so we'll have to see who crosses the finish line first. I guess it is because I'm just focused on what I'm doing right now. I shouldn't relish the past or embelish the future. I just need to work on what is important for right now so tomorrow becomes today.
I'll play it safe though and say my expected graduation date is Spring 2010 though. It won't hurt much by declaring that and it will leave me with a semester to study abroad for a semester with absolutely no penalty (which I find very tempting).
