Chapter Eleven

Kazuya did not like being in the same car with Jin Akanishi.

The first time they shared a ride he had been kidnapped for ransom. The second and last time he had been asked to use his body for money.

Clearly, sitting beside Jin inside a vehicle brought nothing but painful and embarrassing memories for Kazuya. He did not want to think that this third time would equal, perhaps even trump the first two.

Kazuya was in the backseat with Jin as the shiny, black car sped down the backstreets of downtown Taipei. He clutched his nearly stolen backpack on his lap as his heart threatened to beat out of his chest.

“You should be more careful next time,” Jin nonchalantly said beside him. “This isn’t Japan. There are snatchers everywhere in this city.”

Kazuya swallowed, his anxious gaze unwavering from the road before them.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

“I have a business here,” Jin shrugged.

“Are you following me??” he demanded, swiftly facing him. He almost flinched when those dark brown eyes gazed back at him.

“I happen to have operations in Hong Kong and Singapore as well,” he drawled. “You could say that it was sheer luck running into you today.”

“That mahjong geezer and the guy who guided me to his place knew me!” Kazuya reasoned out. “If I knew any better I’d say you set everything up!”

“Trust me, Kazuya, if I wanted you I’d snatch you off the road myself,” Jin snorted, crossing his legs as he averted his gaze to the window. They finally began to enter one of the main highways as high-rise buildings began to crop up everywhere.

Kazuya fell silent and irately stared out of his own window. The vehicle momentarily stopped at a red light.

“I have men roam the streets of every city I work in,” Jin answered. “The Taiwanese mafia happen to be one of my closer allies, and that mahjong geezer happens to be a good friend of mine.”

“Whatever,” Kazuya snapped, facing him once more. “Where are you taking me this time?”

“Back to the port. You went here on a cruise, didn’t you?”

“How did you...?” Kazuya stared at him in disbelief. He shook his head and slumped back to his seat with a sigh. “So, that’s it?”

“What’s what?”

“You’re not going to do something crazy?”

Jin smirked at him in amusement. “Are you disappointed?”

Kazuya immediately sat up straighter and angrily glared at him. “Like hell I’m disappointed! I’m fucking relieved!”

“Alright,” he shrugged.

The crowd began to thicken as they arrived at the shopping district. There were only two more blocks to go before he would be dropped off at the place that his parents would meet him.

Uneasiness and a strange sense of frustration began to gnaw at Kazuya’s chest. After all that trouble and meeting Jin again, only to leave as if nothing had happened... It was exasperatingly anticlimactic.

“Are you going back to Japan?”

“Do you miss me?”

“What?!” The boy exclaimed. “Of course not!”

“Well,” Jin smirked again as the vehicle finally came to a stop. “I’ll see you when I see you.”

Kazuya merely looked at him again before opening the door and stepping out of the car. He slung his backpack over his shoulder and closed the door without looking back.

He listened to the sound of the car driving away before slowly turning around to watch the vehicle disappear with a thoughtful gaze.

The Captain held a farewell party for everyone on board before the ship returned to Japan tomorrow morning.

Kazuya was forced to wear a suit as part of the dress code, along with having to sit through a long dinner course. The passengers mostly comprised of old couples, leaving him with not much choice for companions. He danced with some giggly, old ladies and had a family photograph taken with the captain before excusing himself to retire to his room early.

With a sigh, Kazuya took off his coat and walked to the window. The moon was bright in the sky and the waves were tranquil beneath him. He finished his champagne in one gulp before placing the glass on the windowsill.

He had only turned around when one of China’s biggest mafia lords decided to make an appearance in his bedroom.

“Jesus fucking Christ!” he cried, putting a hand to his chest when he thought his heart stopped beating.

“A good evening to you too, Kazuya,” Jin smirked, hands in his pockets as he stood by the door.

“What the hell are you doing here??” The boy asked, lividly looking around. “You’re not a part of this cruise!”

“Did you really think that could stop me?” he shrugged. “Besides, the ship’s still docked.”

Kazuya fell silent and warily stood at the man standing at the opposite end of the room. Jin remained unmoving by the doorway in his usual, impeccable business suit.

“You look good,” Jin remarked.

Kazuya slowly leaned against the windowsill and frowned at him. “What are you doing here, really?”

“What do you think?”

“Answer the fucking question,” he snarled.

Jin slowly raised his eyebrows and was silent for several seconds.

“You’re still angry.”

Kazuya brought his gaze to the floor and said nothing.

“What if I said I came to talk to your father?”

Jin frowned when the younger man’s expression did not change.

“You really don’t care anymore, do you?” he murmured, slowly walking forward. He stopped in front of him.

“What if I said I came for you?”

Kazuya slowly lifted his head, but did not look at him.

“Well, did you?” He wryly smiled before finally averting his gaze up at him. Jin found nothing but pent-up anguish in his eyes.

Jin’s eyes widened in surprise when Kazuya grabbed his tie and pulled him down. He instinctively put a hand on the windowsill to balance himself and realized that their lips were barely inches apart.

Kazuya’s gaze grew dark with an emotion Jin could not quite read. It was as if the boy was trying to rouse him and yet seemed fearful of him at the same time. He creased his forehead and slowly brought his hand to Kazuya’s face. The younger man blinked, and his true emotions were finally conveyed as he immediately looked away.

“Silly kid,” He murmured with a smile as he gently crushed his lips against his. Kazuya immediately parted his mouth for him as if he was breathing from him. He closed his eyes tightly shut and grabbed the front of Jin’s suit.

Kazuya took off his coat with an urgency that Jin had not felt from him before. He groaned when the younger man began kissing him with a growing intensity that sent him backing to the bed. He placed his hands on his shoulders and reluctantly pulled away to stare at him. There was nothing but hunger and frustration in those eyes.

“This is what you came for, right?” Kazuya began undoing the buttons of his long, white sleeves before him. “Have you changed your mind?”

Jin noticed that Kazuya’s fingers were slightly trembling. He placed a hand on top of his and stopped him from unfastening his shirt.

“Do you even know what you’re doing?” he quietly asked.

Kazuya angrily shook his hand away in response. “Stop treating me like a kid. You’re not the only one who gets to have a say in this.”

Jin slowly raised his eyebrows. “Do you really want to do this?”

Kazuya’s hands dropped to his sides as he blankly stared at his feet. Jin softly sighed and took a step forward to close the distance between them. Kazuya closed his eyes when Jin gently pressed his lips against his forehead.

“Tell me to stop,” His lips were on his cheek as he traveled his mouth down to his neck. “Or tell me to leave, and I’ll do it.”

Kazuya threw his head back and closed his eyes as Jin’s lips grazed his collarbone and moved down to his chest and stomach. He placed a hand on Jin’s head and gripped his hair, sending the man looking up and rising to his full height once more.

Jin slipped the long white sleeves off of Kazuya’s shoulders. He cupped the boy’s face and smirked again before bringing his mouth upon him in a deep kiss.

Kazuya opened his eyes and found himself staring at the ceiling of his room in the cruise ship later that evening.

The sheets slipped off him when he bolted up. He almost jumped when he found Jin sitting at the foot of the bed, fully clothed.

“Sorry,” The man lazily smirked as he fixed the cuff link of his sleeve. “Did you expect me out of the room by now?”

“N-no,” Kazuya slightly stammered. He was thankful that the room was dim enough to hide his face as he cleared his throat and sat up straighter. “I just didn’t think you’d stay longer.”

“You were always the one who left early,” Jin replied.

“Whatever,” he snapped, redirecting his gaze to the sheets covering him. “You should go. The ship leaves dock at midnight.”

Jin carefully watched his expression. Kazuya felt his gaze almost burning his skin, but he kept his eyes on his lap.

“I can’t go back to Japan anymore.”

He said it after such a long silence that it took several seconds for the words to sink in.

Kazuya finally found the courage to look back at Jin. The man’s expression was blank as he found himself whispering, “Why?”

“I have to focus on the bulk of our operations in Shanghai,” he flatly answered. “I simply won’t have time to visit Japan, at least not for a good while.”

Jin finished the rest of his words without blinking. Kazuya found himself swallowing.

You make an excellent liar.

“Oh,” He managed to say as he dropped his gaze to the sheets once more. “Fine.”

Jin rose from the bed. Kazuya felt something heavier replace the weight that left his side.

“I guess this is goodbye.”

Kazuya kept his head low.

“Just get the fuck out of my room.”

Jin watched the boy’s unmoving frame for several more moments before turning on his heel to leave.

The door softly closed. Kazuya shut his eyes and covered his tearstained face with shaking hands.

Jin remained standing down the hallway, listening to the silence behind the door. He wryly smiled and stared at his feet before slipping his hands in his pockets to leave.
