This is a VERY interesting take on Sharon's character!!! I had never thought about her having a softness there-I don't want to say weakness, because I don't think wanting to be loved is a weakness in her case, but its interesting to think of her acceptance of Rusty as a sort of sentimental journey-a way to be softer and to be loved!
Loving this. Great job!

That line just popped up in my mind and I really liked it as I believed it would be something Richard would say.
I don't see Sharon as a person who is desperate to be loved. But I do believe she has been more open in the past, I believe it must have been easier to open up to someone then.
And I believe that her marriage not working out did affect her as a person.
Now there's always this certain distance. She knows she isn't particularly liked.
But how can anyone not be affected by that? And in that scene with Rusty you could see how vulnerable she is underneath that brick exterior.
I do believe that while she is trying to get to know Rusty better, she is opening up more too.
You can tell the squad reacts to that more softer side of her. Like in that scene when Rusty was shortly missing, when his mom didn't show up.
You could see that Andy and Provenza were affected by her rather emotional reaction. Like their eyes were opened that this woman indeed also has a softer side.
More will follow :)

I like it when you say I've got some good intuition. I actually do have that in RL, and it comes in handy while exploring characters, trying to get myself in there shoes, analize them a bit.
Glad that it shows in my writing.
I'll upload more Friday, I still have to do some last editing on the next chapter parts.
I have a funeral today, work tomorrow, just heard I won't have to be there the entire afternoon, so maybe I can do some editing when I'm home early :)

i don't really think sharon is attention seeking as a person, i think her motives are genuinely altruistics when she took rusty in but now i question the decision of accepting sykes in the team XD (she did say she wanted at least someone who likes her...)
something tells me there's more on that file about flynn and rusty's father couldn't be found at a least favourable moment -,-
this can't be 2 of 2, where is the rest?? =P

I like the way you describe this, as it was meant to be just that.
I'm smiling here when I read how you all start analyzing the series while reading my story and I just write it, thinking 'Well this would be something Richard would say as he likes to hurt her'
I don't believe Sharon is an attention seeking person either, that her motives are genuine. Although I believe there is a reason why Sharon has this brick wall around herself. I believe she has been giving more of herself in the past and then got hurt.
This is two of two, but the rest will follow like you're used to by me now.
I'm just naming the different chapters and devide them into parts. So this story will be going on for a little while longer.

No Sharon isn't having a good day. Since Richard has returned into her life, most days haven't been good.
And it looks like Richard is there to stay.
More will follow soon :)

That's why I write the chapters like this.
The next part will follow soon.
Glad you liked it!

Seeing Sharon's early days of being so protective of Rusty is so good :-)

I believe that you're quite right with your assumption that Richard knows Sharon well enough to know what will hurt her. They've been together for quite a while, and I believe that the brick wall she build around herself came later.
I could imagine Sharon to be very open towards her husband in their early years of marriage and that him hurting her, made her find some way to protect herself from getting her feelings hurt in the future.
I believe Sharon is one of those very protective mom's, glad you picked up on that.
Thank you so much for reading again and taking the time to review.
ps posted the sequel to this already as well.
