I just told my mom I'm thinking about dying my hair again, maybe a peekaboo type of dye job, and she was all, "Can't you just look normal for your first semester of school?" And then she told me she wouldn't dye my hair any "weird" colours, so I was like, fine, I'll do it myself ( Read more... )

Aww, I'm sorry. I'm sure she didn't mean to hurt you. Did you let her know how that made you feel?

Yeah, she came around not long after I'd finished crying and my face was still red, so she asked why I was crying, and I told her and everything got sorted out. I felt stupid for overreacting, later >_>

Well, I dye my hair, anyway xD I've usually got this dirty blonde hair, and I dye it strawberry blonde regularly.
But, it was kind of just my perception of what she'd said. I tend to misunderstand what people actually mean when they say something, methinks. That's how I get so worked up over small comments like that.. >///>

I've dyed my bangs pink once before, and she was rather.. reluctant to let me do so. But I still won, in the end \o/
About fitting in for an easier life: My mother actually discussed with me that, apparently, people who look "normal" get better jobs.
.. uh-huh. Well, if that's true, and an employer is going to look at my hair or (future) tattoos, piercings, etc. and decide I'm not suitable because I look "strange," instead of looking at my qualifications.. well, I'd rather not work for stuck-up arses like that, anyway. I'd rather be poor and happy than rich and putting on a façade. I even told her that much.

To be fair, I think we both overreacted a bit. I tend to take the things that people say the wrong way, and my mother just.. doesn't understand kids/teenagers these days and the fascination with those kinds of things, so she gets a little weirded out xD

Hey, I had a post like this once. Ima copy paste what you told me:

"It seems kind of like your mom just.. doesn't think before she speaks, and doesn't think about how what she says will affect people. (Hah, sounds kind of like me at times xD)
Seriously, though - moms. They say such stupid shit sometimes, it's absolutely amazing. And not in a good way."

My mom has been calling me not normal more and more often unfortunately, and I make a point of walking away every time. I think... we just don't have the same ideas as our mothers. They needa be more careful with their wording though because it does hurt. :/

*hugs* Of course you're not weird! What's 'normal' anyway?
And what color do you want to dye your hair? I thought the red looked pretty natural.

Heh, I remember that xD I think we were both kind of at fault, though. I tend to overreact and misunderstand what people really mean when they say something (no, really; that's why I go off and have crying spells over inane little comments).
Of course, we talked and everything, so it's all good now.

I'm sorry to hear that about your mom ): It seems like adults just don't understand kids nowadays. But that was true for my mom's generation, too; the long hair and stuff was definitely "weird" to their parents, you know? I think every new generation is weird to their parents, imho.

I have no idea what this word "normal" is. I've heard vague descriptions, but I can never tack down the exact meaning. Lol.

I wanted to do purple on the bottom and blonde on the top, but I've given it some thought, and I think I'll be dying my hair a lighter blonde and using one of those highlighting caps to dye small strips of my hair in a few different colours 8D
