Sarah downloaded the first ep. of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and showed it to Sean and me. I am unimpressed. Time for a critique:
Summary: "Sakura, a princess from the Clow Kingdom, lost her memory due to a strange incident that happened within an archeological dig in her home country. In order to regain her memory, Yukito, the Kingdom`s mage, sent her childhood best friend, Syaoran, to seek help from the witch, Yuuko. Yuuko tells Syaoran that he has to travel from one alternate reality to another to collect fragments of Sakura`s memory. However, there is a cost for Yuuko's help. Sakura can regain her memory, but she will have no recollection of Syaoran. Along the journey, Syaoran and Sakura meet Kurogane, a warrior who was exiled from his country, and Fai, a mage who wants to move from one reality to another in order to escape from his King. The four characters end up traveling together and an exciting journey through time and space begins."
Okay, this really is about as well written as your standard crossover fanfic. "OMG we really like all these different characters so let's have them all have to travel to the same place where there is a witch and she makes them go to all these other places with other characters we really like!" I'm not entirely against the idea, but usually if I'm going to spend time with it there better be sex involved. Lots. This series gets a pass though, because I really like Clamp, especially Card Captor.
Characters: This is where they fucked up.I think I remember some sort of depth or something to the characters they're using that they lack in this series. Of course, it's anime so I can't really ask for much. Still.. so far the character's are really weak.
Sakura- I'm a princess who loves my childhood friend, even though I shouldn't, hee hee.
Syaoran- My dad started an archeological dig and died, so now I'm doing it. I'm very awkward.
Touya- Prince of Clow. I am really boring.
Yukito- Priest of Clow. I am really gay.
Tomoyo- Crazy other Priestess. I am really boring.
Fai- Crazy tattooed guy. I am really boring.
Kurogane- Angry boring guy with sword.
Bad Guys- Um.. boring.
Voice Acting: TERRIBLE. Let's see.. once upon a time Clamp got all these awesome voice actors for their characters, like Seki Tomikazu, Juunko Iwao, and Megumi Ogata. Then they decided not to cast them again. Fuck them.
Music: Um.. apparently ethno-techno is the new dramatic music. The series seems to rely more on that than actually being cool.
Animation: Eh.. standard, really. I expected better.
I think the comics for this may actually be really cool, but the anime is pretty bad so far. I'll watch it a little further, but I don't have very high hopes. Oh well.
