Sometimes, forgiveness is the only cure (2/2)
He wakes to sun coming through the window showing off Stefan’s naked body next to him. Tries to stop himself from thinking this is perfect and just kisses Stefan because he’s allowed to do that now.
“I should really go,” Stefan says, humming in delight at the kiss.
“Just stay for a couple of hours,” Klaus says lightly, holding onto Stefan’s wrist, suddenly afraid this will be the last moment he gets. Doesn’t know how he always manages to screw up every good thing that happens.
“I really need to just think about things, spend a day sorting this out in my own head, I’ll see you tonight okay?”
“Just a half an hour then, we can get a lot done in half an hour,” Klaus says, still grinning but somewhat more desperately, as he rolls over and straddles Stefan. He has spent ninety long years waiting for this and he isn’t ready to go back, can’t go back, doesn’t think he could bear it.
Stefan sighs, looking at Klaus.
“Who did you kill Klaus?” Stefan asks knowingly.
Klaus hangs his head, begs, “five minutes?”
Stefan’s hands find their way into his hair, caressing him; he tries to savour the probably final touch but all he can feel is broken.
“Who did you kill Klaus? Stefan repeats, gently but more insistent.
“Carol Lockwood,” Klaus whispers.
He’s watching Stefan’s face and he swears for a split second there’s relief before it transforms into outrage and then too many seconds later settling into incredulity.
“What did she ever do to you?” Stefan asks but with more tiredness in his tone than accusation.
“Tyler betrayed me,” he answers simply.
“So did I,” Stefan replies.
“You thought I was going to say Damon?” Klaus asks surprised, Stefan hadn’t been showing the anger Klaus would expect from that claim. Then he realises that Stefan isn’t leaving, hasn’t even moved the fingers off his head, asks tentatively, “this isn’t a deal breaker?”
“You know I was the ripper of Monterrey right?” Stefan replies, pulling him into a kiss.
