Just a quick post. I need to go out right about NOW, but. I was looking at comments at my previous post, and I realized that I actually have a few things I'd repeat in almost every reply, so let's get them out first:

How am I supposed to understand Elena's "getting out of control"? She didn't kill anyone, she didn't even need Damon to pull her away from her victims. She fed, she danced, she was happy. Normally, I'd be more than inclined to say that her "transgression" is not feeding, it's getting too close to Damon. That makes all the sense, that's in accord with my usual reading of Elena. But then... she didn't really do much with Damon either? And the way everyone reacts to what happened on that dance floor? Show, are you trying to tell me Elena is a baby Ripper? Because if so, YOU ARE WRONG!

What is it with Stefan? Because so far, I've had a consistent reading that S/E is based on lies and Stefan can't deal with vampire Elena. But now he's on a heroic quest to preserve her precious humanity, right? And I can see he's being a dick about it, but am I supposed to see it? Does the show want me to think that Stefan is a great guy in all this? When Elena says he loves him the mostest, is this Elena's guilt speaking, or is it the "narrator" speaking? Again, I know what my preferred reading would be, and my preferred reading is in accord with the rest of s4 so far, but I'm not sure it's the correct reading any more.

Guys, this episode was just so freaking confusing! I could probably offer a reading of everything that happened, but the framing was so bizarre and off that I legit can't tell if what I'm reading is in any way correct. It feels like they're telling two mutually exclusive stories. Which story is correct?

On a shallow note:
