I started my summer job as a hostess at a restaurant and it's not too bad so far. It can get a little stressful when it gets busy and I didn't totally know what I was doing yesterday, but I think it'll get easier. The people I work with seem pretty nice too, but I didn't get a lot of time to talk to any of them since they were all so busy. JJ is the girl who was training me and we got along really well, but it just feels a little weird because she's 3 years younger than me.
I just found out when I got there that I'm getting paid less than minimum wage. :( I'm not sure if that's because they think I look younger than 20, so they're giving me the student minimum wage, or if because I get to split the tips, they're allowed to pay me less. I'll have to ask about that next time I'm in. Also, I'm not sure if I should get a second job for the summer. It looks like I'm only going to get a few dinner shifts a week, and each shift only lasts like 3 or 4 hours so I won't really be working that much.
Canada Day wasn't really as big of a deal as usual this year because most of my group of friends was busy or gave an excuse of being tired. So Jess and I went to a bar on the lake and watched the fireworks from its patio. It wasn't as exciting as a party or BBQ with our friends, but it was nice to at least do something. We recognized a few people from high school there and it's always awkward when that happens.
