I passed an outdoor thermometer here that said 93*F!! I'm so not ready for it to be hot yet! We've even been running the air conditioner. :( I am definitely starting to feel it though. My water bottle is warm by the end of the day- that means its time to start adding ice to it again. And bringing along an extra bottle that is half frozen and half water.
I need to think of some new things to put in tortilla wraps for lunch. I'm tired of roast beef, but don't like any other lunch meat. I may do peanut butter and jelly for a while, or maybe tuna/egg salad. I can see that getting messy, but I guess that's where the wrapping them in plastic comes in. I've also probably eaten my weight in peanut butter crackers this year. They're cheap, reasonably filling, and can safely be eaten while driving. So can bananas, but they make my car smell. Granola bars can too, but they're expensive. Cereal is good when we have it around, but that isn't very often.
I found a recipe for breakfast cookies that I made last weekend. They were pretty good, and it was the first time I've tried out our wheat grinder, but there definitely wasn't enough oil in the cookies- a batch of about 30 cookies needs more than 1/4 cup of oil and 1/2 cup of applesauce (oil substitution) in order to hold together. Next time I make them I'm upping the oil to 1/2 cup, which still isn't that much in an entire batch of cookies. And we use peanut oil instead of canola, so I'm not too worried about it.
Our new(est) hobby has been homemade ice cream. We borrowed Chris's aunt's ice cream maker since we didn't want to buy one. We have good recipes for chocolate, vanilla/nutella, and coffee ice cream. It turns out the key is really to let the liquid mixture sit in the refrigerator overnight- the one batch where we tried to rush things didn't turn out and had to chill in the refrigerator anyways. Oh, and we're both now officially addicted to Nutella- we'll probably order a bunch on amazon since its cheaper there than in the store. I was rather disappointed to find out that the Nutella that is made in the US has more sugar and less hazelnut than the European version. And we WONDER why Americans are unhealthy?? Our taste buds are conditioned to like too sweet, too salty, too fatty, and NO flavor. Oh, and too much- of everything.
