Oh Hail!

Childress, TX - A funny thing happened on the way to Las Vegas. The new car has it's first ding. In fact it now has several dings, a few out right dents and a cracked windshield. Tornadic thunderstorms loaded with hail caught me just outside of Ft. Worth just after dinner with my son.

My car (the new one of course...) had moderate damage. But some of the other cars had front and back windows destroyed.

The leading edge of the storm that delivered the hail. Just after shooting this picture I heard a "smack" next to me my foot. I looked and didn't see anything. Then I heard another one and looked up just in time to see a golf ball sized hail stone roll under a car. We decided inside the restaurant would be a better place to be.

Here's a sample of the average hail stone size.

But there were plenty of these tennis ball and baseball sized hailstones sprinkled in the golf balls.

This gives you an idea of how thick the coverage was.

And some cars got off worse then mine. The server that owned this one is not insured for damage to the car.

The auto glass people are going to have a really good weekend.

The big, shoe-thumping fellow continues as a dark thunderhead to threaten all unrepentant non-Communists with hail and thunder.
