Christmas Werewolf

I forgot to delete my Ursinus address from my Amazon.com account so my parent's presents went there and they are closed until the new year.  I feel really bad that they won't get their presents until January.  I was so pleased with my self for getting my shopping done early and not have to set foot in a store.

I am so glad this semester/ this year ( Read more... )

its free to study abroad in sweden at maryland, but its not in stockholm its in some other city that seems really more "college" to me. be careful though-- it's dark all winter and mostly dark other times as well. don't get depressed

my cousins live in a really northern city there (Lulea) and their dad owns a pizza shop/restaurant/bar?

yeah I saw UMBC had some place but it didnt appear to have psychology as a program of study it had business or something weird.

I was under the impression that 95% of the country spoke english 95% of the time because 95% of the Swedish bands I listen to sing in english. Apparently I've been duped.

1. THE human body produces about 150-300mcg of melatonin nightly. Anyway "naturally produced by the body" is a red herring and naturalistic fallacy -- gamma-hydroxy butyrate(recently found in blockbuster children's toy) and dimethyltryptamine are also endogenous, but this is irrelevant to the effects of supraphysiological concentrations and the varieties of use (religio-scientific experience) thereof ...
2. Supraphysiological melatonin (typically 1-3 mg, although lower doses are available) is not side-effect free, and among other things has been associated with daytime depression, shittier sleep quality, and a tendency for worsened autoimmune problems like IBS or asthma, which is probably a direct effect of increased inflammation.
3. These same high doses may actually suppress natural secretion, though lower doses have been proposed to kick-start production as you describe.
4. IMO melatonin is probably most useful for phase shifting, or for those in chronically dark areas.
5. Several studies indicate that ambien and lunesta are ( ... )

No I don't think only natural drugs are good. I'm just generally wary of putting anything in my body. The only side effect I've noticed is more grogginess than usual when waking up. Mostly I'm just not about taking anything with side effect warnings about affecting sexual performance, causing aborted fetuses, addiction, depression. I'm not sure what side effects sleep aids have but it seems like every commercial for a drug has ridiculous side effects. There is probably a real solution to my problem like getting in a more normal schedule, or exercise, or not drinking so much soda and coffee.

There is certainly something to be said for these ideas.
