Movies this year

I only watched a few of these clips (so I'm not *spoiled* too much)... but I'm rather frightened for this movie. It actually doesn't look that good from what I've seen so far. Maybe that's just because I love the original too much. But usually I like Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaborations -- Edward Scissorhands was amazing, Ed Wood was great, and Sleepy hollow was okay (Johnny's acting was not at all disappointing, even if the story was a little meh). ...But I'm not sure about this film... from the clips, Johnny just seems like a combination between Mike Meyers in Austin Powers (Dr. Evil sort of), Michael Jackson, and maybe a little bit of his version of Ed Wood. I'll wait until I see the film, though, to make any real judgements.

I saw "War of the Worlds," which was pretty disappointing. It was actually painful for me... it was like Spielberg was recreating 9/11 only with aliens instead of terrorists, in an abstract way. It was just painful to watch, you know? I didn't want to see all these people being killed and tortured and then simply just END without any real resolutions or purpose to the entire movie. Why the hell would audiences want to see that? It got the audience all hyped up and freaked out at the possibilites of some kind of extra terrestrial life, but for what? I don't know... I just didn't care for it at all. I saw "Minority Report" recently and I liked that a WHOLE lot better... much much much better Speilberg/Tom Cruise collaboration.

Only good movies in the theatre that I've seen this year so far: "Millions" and "My Summer of Love"

Oh! and I almost forgot: I'm seeing The Decemberists and Death Cab for Cutie and Stars in Central park on 8/18... I love Becca's dad, who got us tickets way after the show was sold out!!!
