With all these New York posts coming in recently from Chris, Martin, Rachel, etc, I felt it was my turn. I've been here since the end of March - 7 months and things are going really well. I'm really happy. I absolutely love it here in New York. I love the restaurants and the streets and the people and going into Boarders and reading magazines, and walking in the park and jumping on the subway and going to the village and then getting on metro North and going to Westchester. There is so much accessibility to everything and on such a big scale. Everything they do here is big. They are having a tree lighting at Lincoln Center and they are having Barbara Cook. I walk into Barnes and Noble and Bill Maher is giving a talk on the 4th floor. They have a Harry Potter midnight party and they get Jim Dale (the narrator of the audio books) to read the book for a couple of hours over a loud speaker in the store. We have everything here and it's just a short walk or subway ride away. I have my favorite places and I'm getting really good at navigating around.
Well, the most exciting news is I got a job. I'm doing a national tour of Scrooge the Musical with a fantastic cast for the holidays. We started rehearsals and everyone has such an amazing voice. The show is really wonderful and I am just so happy to be there. I am full of this fantastic energy and it reminds me why I love performing and that it is what I want to do.
My apartment is a happy, supportive place. I love my roommates and we have so much space. It's close to everything and I love coming home to my zen like room.
I'm working at a yoga studio and the people love me. They trust me and it is a relaxing place to work. I enjoy being there and it is not bad to go there after an audition.
My auditions are also going really well. I'm getting called back all the time, constantly asked to sing a second song, even for equity shows. It's very encouraging. It is not a big deal to go to auditions during the week, I am not sick of them by any means.
I have made many really lovely friends. We get together on weekends and have sushi making parties and drink beer. I have a few best friends who call and e-mail me all the time and who I can call if I'm just bored and want to talk. They are supportive and come to anything I perform in, even if it's a tiny show in the village.
My Mom is coming to visit in November and I've gotten us tickets to a few shows and made reservations at a few wonderful restaurants. I'm excited.
This weather is really fun so far too. It's 40/50 today and everyone is bustling around in their coats and drinking their coffee. I took a walk with my ipod, listening to Scrooge and I felt very festive.
Happy Halloween.
