I've been in New York for three months. I know it's been three months because yesterday I bought my third monthly subway pass.
Wow, life without school is great. I'm enjoying New York a lot. The city is amazing and full of energy and people. Things are going well for me. I'm auditioning, averaging two a week and sending out lots of headshots to ads in backstage. I joined an actors studio and am taking TV auditioning classes as well as commercial classes. It's a great studio and I get career consultation and free studio space with pianos and cameras. They will give me free mailing labels for all CD's and agents in the city. My teachers are wonderful and I'm learning a lot about the audition process. I've been getting some callbacks and I feel encouraged and will continue to audition.
In terms of housing, I was staying with Lisa Clayton, Amanda Loomer and Jaxx Van Bien. They were great and I really enjoyed living with them. I got a new place that begins July 1st with two new friends. It's a great place, with a balcony and my own huge room. It will have new wood floors and a new fridge. My roommates are so much fun. Lindsay works at a magazine and is a bag designer from Virginia with a little dog. Erin just moved here too and she works with an art dealer. I just found a bed on craigslist and I'm excited about moving in. Right now I'm staying with my friend Cameron from Starbucks. She has an extra bed and yesterday I made a peach pie to thank her and her clothing designer roommate Erin. I've been working at Starbucks the past two months but just gave my two weeks notice. I have quite a few other jobs, one at a great temp agency and one at Aveda. I'm also working weekends at a yoga studio in Union Square so I'm taking as much yoga as I can.
The city is fun. I still can't believe I live in New York sometimes. I take the subway everyday into the city. I go to free concerts at the park and eat dinner at restaurants that open up all their windows during the summer. There's a great bar/restaurant I like to go to that has a patio that's brightly colored. I made some new friends recently through my friend Charlie. Two of them are investment bankers from USC, and a few of them work for Kenneth Cole. We went out to a club the other day. It was really fun. It was Charlie's birthday on Friday and Leah made the most amazing dinner with Beef Stroganof and delicious bean salads, shrimp salads and a delicious cherry cheesecake. I love walking through the park or down to Union Square to go shopping at Anthropologie and Whole Foods. I also spend a lot of time in Boarders and Barnes and Nobles reading.
I hope everyone's summer is going great. Happy 4th of July.
