I've been frequenting a site called
"the amazing Fact Generator." Hit the button and a new, semi interesting fact is presented for your preusal.
This one perplexes me a bit.
In New Jersey and Oregon, pumping your own gas is illegal. These states banned self-service out of fear that untrained consumers might light themselves on fire. The laws are surprisingly popular with citizens, and any mention of their repeal has been met with fervent opposition.
I'd like to know what evidence they have. Where are the studies? How many gas station related deaths are there per year, specifically involving people lighting themselves on fire? Yes, it's possible that some one spills some gasoline, but they would also have to combine that with spark-age of some sort.
I kind of thing that the sitizens are more up in arms about having to get out of their cars, than the actually idea that they would start pouring gasoline onto their persons or their families and then makeing fire.
