A question...

Why are so many of the people I know, so fucking depressed all the time?

Is this rhetorical?

It is most certainly NOT rhetorical.

I'd also like to point out that everyones life isn't as rosey as yours. People are gonna get depressed for a variety of reasons...

I've seen you depressed more than once in the last 6-7 years...

First, why are you getting defensive? Second, you've seen me down once, when Brandy and I didn't work out. Third, my life hasn't been especially rosey. The difference is, when things aren't going my way, I don't let it destroy me. Fourth, I'm not talking about fits of being upset over something. I'm talking about the whole "My life is over." song and dance that some people put out there. Finally, back to the defensive thing, if you are depressed, and I didn't know that you were, that sucks, but no need to get all attitudinal with me for asking a question, bud.

Because you hang out with a lot of goths.

I guess so, but I always thought that the "Goth" thing was more of a fashion statement, and not an actual "Everything sucks. Life is hard!" thing.

agreed (except for very few cases)
but it's easier to complain and get attention for the same things over and over again than it is to take steps to change those things. Because if someone can change it, they also have to admit that the reason why their life currently sucks is partly their fault. It's a lot easier to blame the world than it is to blame yourself (even in part)

actually... it life really is that bad alot of the time and alot of us get ourselves into things that we have no idea how to get out of. (i mostly get myself into messes by trying to make other people happy and forgetting to watch my own ass). The way that the world is today leaves no time for things that might help, people just rush around from one thing that they don't want to do to the next and "love" and "relationships" have become part of some "game". It really is enough to make one cry.

That said.... i agree that some people take it too far.

Meh. I'm single, but I'm not upset about it. I didn't have a perfect childhood, but I'm not letting it crush my spirit. I have worked many shitty jobs, but I keep truckin'. I've been out of work, and so deep in the hole I couldn't even see daylight, but I keep doing what I do. I've even been addicted to drugs, but I got away from that. I'm not saying my life is any more or less hard than anyone elses, but being depressed about it doesn't do anything but make it worse. Maybe it's just my perspective, but it seems too easy to wallow in the downs of life, let the things pile on, and eventually swallow you up. I think it takes more to keep your chin up, and push through it.

True character is not defined by the adversities you face, but by how you face them.

I am not disagreeing with you. I don't really think that any of us have had it "easy". Most times i let it get me down for a while and then i get back up and brush myself off. Some people can and some people can't. Some people will and some won't.

It really is a matter of your perspective. I have watched how you perservere and it really is amazing to me that you can be so happy most of the time considering what you have been through.

We gotta do what we gotta do, babe. Like I said, I just can't let it all take me down with it. It's hard enough with anxiety and all that entails. Depression is pretty much not an option. :)

it's difficult to tell emotion on a screen, and there are so many words that often times, yeah...the easy way is to label it "sucks". life doesn't suck at all, it can be very fulfilling. it is how you handle it, and not everyone can be conscious of how they're feeling and thinking 24/7 and i'm sure no one expects that. sometimes you have to shift into default-dumbass mode. habits are difficult to break and life can be hard, but in the end, regardless, you gather something and move on from that something ( ... )

Sounds good. Perhaps this week or the coming weekend?
