Finally in DC part 2

Jan 19, 2005 22:41

Sara Gentry reporting live from Gaithersburg, Maryland. After an eventful day of planes and buses we are settling in for our first night of the trip. While our flights weren't as eventful as group 2, they were pleasantly filled with donuts, orange juice, the humorous Southwest Airlines crew, and our fearless group leader, Dr. Saker.

Group 1 had the privilege of meeting at Eppley Airfield at 5:30 this morning. Sleepy and yet excited we began our journey... many of us promptly falling asleep as soon as we were seated in the plane. A few of us, however, (myself included), promptly began asking the flight crew for captain wings. =D

Jump to a few hours later and we begin our one and a half hour wait for the tour bus to pick us up at BWI. This time was filled with disappointment over the lack of fast food, card games, and hidden raptors in our luggage. Wait... what?

Moving on, our next stop was the hotel and then Old Country Buffet for a long awaited meal. Even with the snow, most students ate more ice cream than anything else. Crazy... Next we went on a tour of the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and also the Korean and Vietnam Memorials.

Another hour bus ride to the hotel and we were briefed by our Director Dr. Erica Neidlinger. Who had quite an amazing day! After marching with Michael Beard in front of the White House three times and catching up with former co-workers at the final security meeting it was great to see how excited and proud she is for us to have been given this opportunity. Dean Welk also came to congratulate us and wish us luck.

And now we sleep.
