So I left off last time just as I was getting to the one that really shook me up. I was walking around the city and I ended up pretty much by my self (no one around). This was probably for 2 reasons, 1 it was raining and 2 I wasn't walking in the most touristy area (and by this I mean it was maybe a 1 mile walk from one major tourist hub to another major tourist hub so it was probably the rain). I stopped in a botanical garden and then started walking on to my final destination (not wasting too much time because it was raining). As I was walking away I realized that there was someone walking behind me. No biggy, at first he was a good 10 ft behind me and I figured that he was just walking somewhere. After a few minutes the thought occurred to me that he might be following me, but I chalked it up to paranoia and just kept going. As I turned and he turned I really started to wonder. Then I crossed a street and he was still about 6ft behind me. I tried walking faster, but he kept up. Then I stopped at a light and backtracked a little and he stopped and backtracked a little. At this point I knew he was following me but I was right across the street from where I wanted to go. But I was the only person at the corner I was waiting on for the light to turn. So I was just walking around the corner so he couldn't get too near me. There were people across the street so I knew I was in no danger (and he always stayed at least 3ft away from me), but I made a beeline to tourist spot. But I stopped to take a picture and he stopped. I told him to stop following me but he didn't speak English. So I shooed him away with my hands but he just spoke in Chinese and didn't go away. For being a big tourist place it was kinda empty (and very few people working because it was a memorial) so I went to the one big theater and there was a coffee shop outside. I walked right up and so did he. I asked if anyone spoke English and they got me the one women who did and I said 'He's following me and won't go away' pointing my thumb at the guy. To which she asked 'what? he's not with you?' 'no' 'ok do you want us to call the cops'. I told her that I just wanted someone to tell him to stop following me, which I think someone eventually did, but I don't know for sure. I do know that the guy didn't go away so they called the cops and told me to go. So I did. But I still felt weird because I left before the cops came and I have no idea what happened and I stayed in the area and stuck out like a soar thumb because 1)I was wearing my pink skirt, and 2) I'm white with light hair (much more number 2). But I didn't have any problems.
So I went to this large memorial for the first president of Taiwan. I took some pictures (which a Chinese guy was doing too) but the guard and some guy were starting an ado. They both come over to me and the guys says the guard says I have to leave because I am wearing flip flops and as respect for the president you are not allowed in with 'slovenly dress or slippers'. So no biggy. But the guy wanted to talk with me. So I talked about the Taiwanese, Korean, and American economy with him for a bit. And I say I talked with him but he did most of the talking. I would have left much earlier into our conversation, but it was pouring and I didn't have an umbrella so I couldn't really go anywhere. But he was nice and I just wanted to talk and probably show off his English skills and knowledge.
