So, I'm playing records at people this Thursday. I've just started going through my collection to decide on songs. I'm, say, fifteen percent through six thousand odd songs and I've picked, uh, thirteen. I'm really scared. I mean, seriously, people will have paid money to get into this club. It's their Thursday night. What they don't want, which I want, is for me to play the M83 remix of The Pioneers at them for nigh on six dense, spectral minutes. What I really want, then is to have half an hour to myself before the doors open, or something, to get them out of my system. I'll ask.
I've got Recover by The Automatic and The Pioneers by Bloc Party (the original, as an apology for playing the remix). I mean, Recover's fun, I enjoy that, and I love The Pioneers but other than that we've got Blanket and Turnstyle Blues by Autolux, the Zongamin remix of Silent Sigh, Busy Needles and Steven Fucking Spielberg by Bearsuit and Revolution Action by Atari Teenage Riot for goodness sakes. Who do I think I'm going to be playing to? Well, myself, clearly. Oh yeah, totally, We Don't Care by Audiobullys followed by Army Of Me by Björk. Club NME here I come.
Oh well, we're only on B in the collection, most of the stuff kids know will surely be lower down in the list. M is always a popular letter with the indie set. Ha.
