This is it. I'm officially a trucker trainee.
We lost Internet at Rachel's house for the past two days, so I'm writing this from a Mobil truck stop before we set out to deliver our load. First stop: Spartan Foods.
My trainer/co-driver's name is Keith. So far he seems like a really cool guy. He's 30 (turning 31 in November), likes hard rock and metal, comic books, cartoons, and has Incredible Hulk sheets for his bunk. :-D We talked for a couple hours on the phone before he picked me up, so I can tell we won't have trouble keeping each other awake.
The truck is a 2003 Freightliner Century with a double bunk and automatic transmission. It's got some miles on it, but so far it looks pretty nice. It's actually kind of high-tech for a semi, moreso than I was expecting. It has an automatic ignition switch for idling to conserve fuel based on the ambient temperature of the cab. It doesn't have an invertor built in, but Keith has one running his TV/DVD player, and I'll probably get one for myself to run my laptop (god knows a 90w DC adaptor for my laptop would be too expensive).
I told Keith I play guitar, and now he expects me to give him lessons. :-P I said sure, I just need to buy an instruction book and keep one or two steps ahead of him.
Next update will be wherever we stop next, and I'll let everyone here and on AIM/YIM/MSN (excuse me, Windows Live :-P) know where I'm going next.
