Dear Sore Throat,
I sincerely hope that when you appeared to me yesterday and this morning, that you were merely the result of some tasty sinus run-off resulting in my neglect to refill my allergy medication in a timely manner.
I regret to inform you that with a two-hour job talk and a meeting taking up much of my afternoon, I really don't have time for you in the face of all the reading for class tomorrow morning that remains unfinished- not to mention that I have to teach a class for an hour on Thursday morning and so far I have not the slightest idea of what I am going to talk about.
You may come along next week, if you must, but please hold off for now, if you do insist on coming. It would be most appreciated.
