Today is laundry day. For some bizarre reason, the excitement of the laundromat still hasn't worn off for me. I like the gentle hum of all the machines spinning away at once, and it's fun to people-watch while I'm there. Even though I initially thought I would use my laundry time to read, so far, I haven't. I like to look at all the different messages posted on the bulletin board, or sometimes one of the guys from TJ's is there and we'll talk for awhile. I might run next door to grab a bagel and there's always one kind of beautiful breed of dog or another outside to visit with (hey, it IS Pacific Grove, after all). Going to the laundromat has also forced me to actually fold my clothes right away, instead of leaving them in a pile like I do when I did laundry at home. Folding laundry will always be very therapeutic to me. It just gives me a nice quiet time to collect all my thoughts and plan out my next week. Despite all the activity going on, I find that the laundromat is a very peaceful place and a kind of mini sanctuary away from home.
Yes, I realize that I'm probably nuts.
I went down the street yesterday to scope out a yard sale and to my surprise, I KNEW the people running the sale. When I worked at the museum, I talked to one of the girls who worked at the candy store downstairs almost everyday. One of the things I missed when I quit that job was all the little chats we would snag when one - or both - of us was on break. Turns out, she just lives a couple doors away, now. I can actually see the back of their house from my bedroom window. I finally got to meet her son and he's absolutely adorable! For some reason, the discovery that I actually know someone in this neighborhood is very comforting to me. I don't feel quite so isolated, and feel a little bit more like I belong. We are definitely planning to hang out more often, now that we're so close and I have all this free time.
For the past two hours I've been trying to get my printer to print some documents I need for my tax returns. It is disturbing how much a little piece of equipment can bother me. I even ventured into the terrifying realm of going through all the troubleshooting windows, etc. The problem's still not fixed, and I'm giving up. I refuse to allow it to ruin my day. Besides, that's what Josh is for. :) He gets off work early today, and it shouldn't take too much convincing to get him over here to work his magic on my printer and get it to work.
Happy SuperBowl Sunday to any of you watching the game.
