I am such a procrastinator. I keep meaning to put up posts on here and then get "distracted" away and do something else. I am settling into my new daytime schedule slowly but surely. That first week of getting up before 7am every day was quite a shock to my system, and I have a newfound respect for my body and its capability at adapting as well/quickly as it did. Working in the mornings in my store has been quite an experience. It's fun seeing customers that I normally wouldn't see and surprising those who were under the impression that I only came out at night. :) Now that I've joined the ranks of adults who typically work a Mon-Fri 9-5 for a few weeks, here are some things that I've learned:
1. The novelty of rush-hour traffic will wear off in about two days.
2. Morning radio talk shows are ALWAYS more interesting than the evening ones.
3. Starbucks laces some form of highly-addictive substance into their product. People sincerely look panicked when they head into the building, and come out with a placid, euphoric look pasted onto their faces.
4. On Saturdays you mow your lawn. On Sundays you wash your car. If you deviate from this schedule, you could jeopardize the entire flow of the universe.
5. Sleeping in on the weekends is not a good idea. It makes Monday morning that much more painful.
6. 9 o'clock is reading time and 10 o'clock is now bedtime.
Yes, I went through a short, demented phase in which I was fascinated by the whole rush-hour traffic that occurs when all the "normal" grown-ups head off to work. Don't worry, I've come to my senses and no longer get as much enjoyment out of it. Although it took some adjusting, I am glad that I work in the daytime, and having real weekends off is a treat I'm learning to savor. Even though it's only the start of February, I'm looking forward to the days getting longer so that I can enjoy a little bit more of the daylight hours when I get off work.
In other news, Josh and I will only be working together for about one more week, and then he's moving on to (possibly) bigger and (hopefully) better things. I'm really glad that we won't have to keep our whole relationship a secret much longer. And with us working at seperate jobs, we'll finally be able to get time off together to do some of the things we've wanted to do for ages. Granted, it's going to raise more challenges at work because there was a lot that I depended on him for in the store, but that's why I hire the good drones. :) There's only a couple more weeks until my new pay raise kicks in, and my bank account is going to get a real workout. It couldn't come a moment too soon, either. And I filed my tax returns already, which is going to kick back a nice little refund for me. I can't wait to take that deep sigh of relief in a few weeks.
