[Kate looks pale.  Her mouth opens a little while she fumbles with the device, but no words are coming out.  Her eyes are empty, not staring so much at the device as she is past it, her eyes locked onto nothingness as she fights to form words.

H-Hey! Are you okay? Hey, uh... ma'am, where are you?

[She hears someone talking, and turns to the tablet. She can't actually see it very well, though. Tears have started to stream down her face - she'd done her best to hold them back, but there's only so far she can push herself.]

My apartment.

Uh. Okay. But where's that?

[He's already running by the looks of it.]

[She mutters directions.]

This has to be... some kind of sick joke.

I'm on my way! Just hold on and we'll get to the clinic.

[It'll be a few minutes before he arrives on the scene, trying NOT to look panicked.]

[Normally, she'd think it was nice that a complete stranger was running to to her rescue. But at the moment, she's not thinking about much at all.]

I'm not gonna die. I can't die, I just... I need one more chance.

Hey don't worry. You're not gonna die. We're going to get you to the clinic and you'll be okay!

[She smiles.]

Must... be a great clinic.

[He grins though he's obviously worried.]

Yeah. We all go through a lot here so we need some really good doctors to help us. They're awesome.

[For some reason, him bringing up doctors makes her miss Lanie. It makes everything she's lost all the more real.]

Please... please tell me this isn't a weekly occurrence.

[He rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.]

Uh. It isn't. I mean this is pretty new to me.

[If she were on her game, she would have caught the lie. But she's not and right now, that's what she needs to hear.]

Good. Wouldn't want to uh... Wouldn't want to develop any expectations.

[Because he's having a hard time running and talking at the same time and she needs to stay conscious.]

[She grimaces. Coherent thought is a hard thing for her to grasp right now.]
