I believe it could be a test. They may be testing our emotional responses to trauma.

In that case, they test that about every week or so.

It makes sense, if you keep in mind they're attempting to gather enough data to reach a conclusion.

I'd feel better if I had any idea what sort of conclusion they were working toward, I admit.

The effort required to save just one world is mind-boggling. If her message was the truth, then she's trying to determine of any of those represented by us are worth the effort. If I were in her position, I would want to be sure. [There's a short pause.] I realize that may seem insensitive. I'm sorry.

No, it's fine.

I'm not convinced that wasn't just another way of fucking with our heads, honestly. But we're better off sticking together through this than anything else.

I'm completely in agreement. It's also possible it was the beginning of a new stage of experimentation.
