I think it's more likely that these things have been engineered to prey upon the psyches of those they encounter. It seems in keeping with the usual tricks.

If it weren't so early, this would be a good excuse for a drink. Then again, even getting slightly intoxicated is probably a bad idea when something's going on around here.

I'm not entirely sure those conventions apply in a place where any daylight is mere decoration.

Although I do have to regretfully agree on the dangers of lowered guard.
