You know, if you go looking for trouble, one of these days you're going to find it, Junpei.

[Elena Fisher was checking the looseness of her gun holster as she approached - not quietly, because she didn't much feel like being at the point of Junpei's sword by surprising the youth. She smiled wryly as she noted the enthusiasm and impatience she had heard in his voice also seen in his stance and expression.

Mitsuru Kirijo was gone, returned home, but Elena was still feeling the responsibility the young woman had left her with: Try to keep Junpei out of trouble, because unfortunately, trouble of the dire sort seemed to be what he liked getting into. It reminded her of a certain someone - though her friend of a couple adventures in contrast claimed that he didn't go looking for trouble.

Elena chuckled at that reasoning, pulled her gun free as she converged fully on her patrol partner's location, and began checking it for action and readiness.]

Oh come on. It's not really looking for trouble. It's just walking where more of the monsters are so nobody gets hurt by them. We can do that, right?

[He grinned and bounced a little as he looked at her, positively brimming with energy. He wasn't like he used to be, he wasn't the type to go too far into trouble in order to prove himself. He'd already found a reason to live, something only a couple months back home had given him, and so he would make sure to use all his newest techniques to keep both him and Elena safe.]

Please? I want to try out some of what I learned from Grifter.

[Elena sighs, shaking her head as she considers Junpei's request. They're partners, and they've already been through numerous patrols together. Those patrols have been quiet because they've kept themselves to the assigned routes - and while Elena has been grateful for that peace - she's been all too aware that her younger companion has been chomping at the bit.

Finally she smiles a little, glancing up at Junpei.]

Okay. We'll check things out a little bit off the beaten path. But slowly okay? No charging off without me.

[She gives him a pointed look that brooks no argument.]

You got it, Elena!

[He knows there are practically stars in his eyes when she agrees and why shouldn't there be? They get to adventure off their patrol route! There's a little voice in his mind yelling at him, telling him what a foolish decision they're making, and it sounds suspiciously like Annabeth. Dammit Annabeth, get out of my head! Junpei grins and turns his hat around so the bill is facing backwards.]

This is gonna be awesome. The Great Junpei and Amazing Elena saving the Underworld, one patrol at a time!

[She grinned to herself as they walked along, keeping her gun at the ready but at her side as went along their assigned route, borderind on areas of the city less traveled - streets that weren't known for being residential or business - unlabeled areas.]

'Amazing Elena' - let's hope that doesn't get around.

[She murmured with amusement to herself, thinking of how a certain friend of hers would undoubtedly tease her mercilessly over the title.]

What's wrong with 'Amazing Elena'? I think it sounds awesome.

[His friends are pretty much used to his eccentric nature so he doesn't think about how it could affect Elena. When he recognizes that they're straying off the beaten road he does a dance inside. Hopefully they could run into one of the tougher monsters so he could have plenty of practice.]

What about 'Exciting Elena' or 'Amazingly Awesome Elena'?

[Elena laughs without restraint at Junpei's further suggestions. She's found out working with him over time exactly why Mitsuru was so worried about him - and why she was so insistent on keeping him safe. Junpei is a special sort of heart - one with great expectations, great dedication, and great spirit.

There could be no greater horror that seeing a soul like him crushed, hurt, or killed.

That sobering thought as well as their traversing into unknown territory cuts off Elena's laughter like a knife. She raises her gun, placing her back against a building and looking into the ominous alley before them with keen eyes. There's a soft sound in the air, like the crunching of bones. Something nearby is eating ( ... )

[If Elena hadn't been around on patrols Junpei probably would have already been in trouble several times already. While he now knew he had to live on and not be so reckless he still wanted to become stronger. He was tired of being the one saved and was eager to prove himself.

So when his partner nods in his direction, the echoing alerting them both, Junpei pulls his long sword out and eagerly takes point. Within moments a Genlock emerges, his mouth coated with dark blood.]

Oh shit.

[THAT was creepy. With a fierce face Junpei backs up and readies his sword, waiting for the monster to make a move. When it rushes at him he's ready, bringing up the long blade and swiping it at the creature, making it back away. He can't let the thing get too close. It could hurt Elena.]

[Elena winces at the sight that greets them, then poises her weapon, waiting for an opening to shoot. Then another sound grabs her attention away, and just as well. Another genlock is running in from behind.

The journalist grits her teeth and shoots, bringing the creature down before it can hack at her with its wicked looking blade. Unfortunately...it's not the only one approaching from the rear. Very likely this was a trap, to catch gullible patrol members who wandered off the assigned paths.

Great.]

Junpei! We have company!

[She continues to shoot as she backs up towards Junpei and his adversary. Her shots hit, but don't bring down the approaching three genlocks.]

What? Shit!

[He just had to talk her into going off the path, didn't he? Shit shit shit, he didn't want his partner getting hurt! Not because of him! With a focus that only comes out in battle Junpei slices the head off of one of the Genlock's and stands between them and Elena.]

Just keep shooting and try not to hit me!

[He puts both hands on his long sword, a change from his normal one-hand position, and instead of swinging it like a bat he rushes forward and slashes in a wide arc, removing the blade-arm of another creature.]

[Elena isn't worried yet - she's been up against worst odds than this with a certain friend of hers. She is glad that Junpei really does seem able to wield that long sword of his. Seeing him practice with it is nothing compared to watching him use it to gruesomely dismember what Elena would say most resemble the 'little green men' out of science fiction horror stories.

The journalist doesn't have time to even try to back up Junpei while not hitting him with a stray bullet, as yet more of the creatures appear, seemingly out of the shadows themselves. Elena grunts in something more like alarm, then puts her back against the nearby wall of the alley and begins methodically taking down their new opponents as best she can - trying to at least incapacitate them before they can reach her or join the monsters fighting her partner.]

We need to get a more defensive spot!

[She shouts between the cracks of her gunfire.]

What the hell counts as a more defensive spot? These things move as fast as us!

[And probably a little smarter too. Dammit. He tries to stay away from Elena's shooting range but still stands between her and the monsters. Man, whoever brought these to this world seriously sucked.]

We have to get to one of the buildings and higher up. Maybe they can't climb or we can lock them out or something. Or we can take them out one by one!

Well unless you want to become dinner I think we should try to find one anyway!

[Maybe a little smarter than one of the them, because Elena's pretty sure she can outwit anything until it proves her wrong. She's stubborn like that.

Elena starts backing towards a door in the alley, still covering Junpei and herself as she does so. The door looks like it hasn't been used in years, and it creaks but doesn't open as she pushes on it.]

Junpei! Take this door down, I'll cover you!

[She goes down to one knee, bracing her arm to do just that as she barrages the Genlocks as quickly as possible.]

Got it!

[He quickly evades any possible firing and slams into the door, putting all of his strength into one arm. It takes a couple times before the door swings open and he rubs his sore shoulder, keeping his sword in his free hand.]

Hurry, get inside.

[As soon as she's inside he shoves the door closed, pulling things to block the door and hold up.]

That should slow them down, right? Uh, we should head.. up, right?

[Elena sprints around the corner into the building, then covers Junpei as he does the same. She breaths a sigh of relief as she nods to his question.]

Yeah...maybe we can find something heavy to drop on them. At this point we should probably just thin their numbers down enough so we can retreat.

[She smiles ruefully, their little attempt to find a little more 'excitement' was turning out to be too much of an adventure. There was a very real chance that they could be overwhelmed here.]

Maybe I should call for back-up.
