Two books I bought yesterday: Fat Land and Media Control.
I got the course outline for my 2nd class (other then Visual Arts) that I will be taking at Governor's School this summer. They were all intresting, I narrowed them down to 3. Please comment if you have any suggestions on which I should choose. I'm torn between the following:
"Free Reelin'" - We will sutdy films which excel at visual and musical expression, using them as inspiration to create our own short videos. Students will learn the crafts of camera acting, cinematgraphy, screenwriting and editing.
"The Modern Muckracker's Journey"- Today there are artists, writers, dancers, musicians, historians, journalists and filmakers who have addumed the role of muckrackers. We will evaluate the modern role we have as activists to reform our society. We will explore contemporary activist movments, develop our own reform agendas, and create artistic avtivist actions through dance, theater, visual art, and music. Topics for explorations may include food, food culture, corporate control, enviroment, world conflict, sweat shops, and globalization.
"Journey Inside the American Mind"- Does the media create the American mind? Do I become what I see? As individuals and a people we are defined by the images we project. We will focus on a critical analysis of the use and misuse of images in our culture. Through the study of music, art and film we will explore how we form societal images, define culture and think critically.
School is still busy. Still trying to expand my friendships. Trying to reduce the stress level. Missing seniors. Waiting til Friday when Alan can DRIVE and take me to River City Diner.
OH YEAH IM RUNNING FOR HISTORIAN FOR SENIOR CLASS. And I'd appreciate you to listen to my ideas and your vote!
