February, it seems, is the musical equivalent of
NaNoWriMo. The goal is to get an album's worth of material written in a month.
I'm going to join in the madness, but there are (at least) a couple of different takes on it, and I haven't yet decided which one I'm going with.
FAWM defines the goal as writing 14 songs, and has a forum and artist monitoring system set up; not bad.
RPM Challenge defines the album as 10 songs or 35 minutes of music, but it has to be recorded, not just written; updates seem to be blog-based.
Getting things recorded and being more comfortable with that process is a bit of a priority for me at the moment, so RPM might be the better choice. It's easier writing 10 songs than 14, but I don't know if it's easier recording 10 songs than writing 4 more, so that's a toss up. Hmm.
I'll decide later today.
